Mixter Nitrogen Creamery is one of those special dessert places that turns a simple craving into an event. Whether you go with someone you love, bring the family, or just treat yourself, the experience is part of the treatment. The creaminess, the freedom to build your own treat, the kindness of the people behind the counter—all of that combine to make it more than just an ice cream parlor. It’s a spot that makes you smile.
The owners and staff aren’t just there to serve; they seem to genuinely want to make each person’s visit a little happier.
What’s Unique • The liquid nitrogen process: each order of “nicecream” is made on the spot, right before your eyes, with liquid nitrogen. It adds both spectacle and texture—super creamy, very smooth. • Customization is front and center. You choose your base (vanilla, chocolate, etc.), your mix-ins, toppings, even syringes of extra flavor agents (like caramel or hazelnut). • They offer vegan options, which is great for folks who are dairy-free or limiting dairy.
Prices are maybe a bit higher than your average scoop, but considering the novelty, fresh bases, premium ingredients, and experience, many reviewers feel it’s worth it.
Atmosphere & Staff • Friendly doesn’t even begin to cover it. Staff are repeatedly described as welcoming, patient (which helps when you stand there trying to decide between a dozen mix-in options), and enthusiastic. They seem proud of what they’re doing, and that shows. They explained the whole process and walked us through the experience. • The place is clean, well designed, and family-friendly. There’s space to hang out, comfortable seating, bright decor—just enough to feel fun without overwhelming.
This is a very unique and one of the first of its kind in Jacksonville and i’m sure they’re...
Read moreAfter 3 official visits, I’m way overdue for a review. I originally tried this specific locations ice cream on one of their media days when they first opened, and immediately in love! Fast forward two visits later - they’ve expanded to offer even more flavor options. Milkster now has sorbet! I was so thrilled to see this. I love both regular ice cream, and fruity sorbet. Having both in one location is a real treat! (Don’t worry, dairy free is another option as well)
This limited time lime really hit the spot for any tart lovers out there. You could see tiny lil flecks of Real lime in the sorbet. This was extraordinarily delicious. The fact that this store stays open late deserves a round of applause. Once Covid happened in Jax years back, businesses shortened their hours and never really expanded to being open as late as they previously were. Jacksonville got all old on us. But not this ice cream shop! They stay open late and welcome customers up until the very last minute. Families were rolling in on a Friday night. I was so happy to see business was booming.
I also loved seeing their collaboration with other small businesses in the area. Milkster moved in and immediately started making friends with their warm, welcome, and friendly attitude. They recently teamed up with Got Flowers Jax to make rose sorbet (with actual real roses in the sorbet!) How innovative! And a great way to bring a sense of community to light. I love when businesses go in on an idea together to really make a unique experience for their city. You can feel the love in Milkster! Give it a try if you have yet to try it. It’s a very cool experience to watch, the staff is so wonderful, and the unique shop has some pretty cool...
Read moreOur party was in the area for dinner and I wanted some dessert. I noticed the storefront on the way to dinner and then when looking for what was in the area for dessert options. I convinced the group to try it.
At first glance the experience is a little overwhelming, but one of the staff jumped out from behind the counter to explain the concept.
First you choose the size of the ice cream you want by selecting a cup. Keep in mind the raw ingredients will expand when it is made. That is the fun part.
Once you have your cup, add your mix-ins (many items available like brownie bits, cereal, and other options), then select the base which is a liquid you fill the cup with through a nozzle for each base. This can be cream, non milk items or flavoured bases.
Then come the fun part... The Mixter team takes your cup, puts it in a KitchenAid mixer, (5 are lined up to work), adds liquid nitrogen and turns the mixers on. Clouds swirl as it mixes and kids will really love it and adults too. Science!!!!. The Mixter team scrapes your fresh ice cream (not icy at all) into your cup and you can then top your creation with additional items.
Additionally they have shakes, brownies (highly recommend them perfectly moist with chocolate chips inside), and coffee drinks as well.
The experience is not cheap, but the quality is there, it is an experience, and nitrogen is not cheap to procure. The space is modern, a couple different seating areas and the staff are really there to ensure you get the best experience and service. Keep in mind, with this process it does take a little more time to make as each ice cream is customized and mixed in front of you.
Try it,...
