This use to be my favorite Asian restaurant in Jacksonville but I had to retract my previous review which I gave 5 stars. I'm not sure what goes on in someone's mind that they would condone this sort of practice but they were offended when I called them out on their foolishness. I ordered 1 shrimp fried rice and 1 house rice with extra shrimp. While eating my shrimp fried rice, I noticed how flat the shrimp was. When I called to inquire about it, the told me that they split this already small shrimp down the center to "help them cook faster". In reality it's to pocket more money! I understand the financial impact on many businesses which is why I tip even on to go orders but this is ridiculous. I spent $32.00 +$5.00 tip (order was to go) for a skimpy order of food. This is the last time they will EVER get a penny from me!

I have been going to Peony’s for years now but haven’t been in a while. Definitely, a lot has changed. I noticed the serving portion has changed and what used to be meant for sharing is now good for a single person. I can’t agree more to other comments about how small the portions have become. I went and ordered for Singapore style rice noodles and was very disappointed. It was a little weird because part of the serving was hot and part was not hot? How did that happen??? You will know if a dish is freshly cooked, but mine was not. It was disappointing that some Chinese take-out chains have far better quality food that what I had at Peony’s which is a sit down restaurant. I gave them 2 stars for the reason that I really liked the crispy wonton I had for appetizer. Overall experience was not that spectacular. :(

This restaurant never fails to have the best food! I ordered he tofu/fish hot pot which was a delicious. The tofu was soft, and the fish was cooked perfectly. The broth was rich and flavorful, and it was full of vegetables and mushrooms. I ordered the eggplant which was also very good. It was cooked until it was soft and tender, and it had a delicious sauce. The eggplant was served with a side of rice, which was perfect for the sauce. This is the only place I like eggplant! The lo mein was my favorite dish. The noodles were cooked perfectly, and they were tossed in an awesome sauce that has a smokey flavor. I order all three of these every time I come here since I can never make up my mind which one I want! There are so many other things on the menu that looks great I need to try.

Have been there a handful of times and normally pretty good. Prices are higher now yet servings are smaller. The fried rice that came with my dish was half a normal cup of rice.

We waited half an hour while two groups after us were seated first. Meanwhile the table for 6 that had been empty the entire time sat empty while our group of 5 waited.

After the first group after us was seated, I was finally able get someone's attention to ask of we could just sit at the empty table. First waiter said I had to ask another waiter and then that guy flat out ignored me. We were looking up other options for dinner when finally someone decided we could sit at the empty table. Not to mention the two larger tables to the right were marked as reserved the entire 1.5 hours we were there and nobody ever sat there. We left at about 8pm and with them closing at 9, nobody ever sat at the reserved tables. When they brought our drinks I told the waiter we were ready to order and he just turned around and walked off. We were tempted to leave again while waiting just to order.

Our 20 month old son started to get antsy toward the end and was getting loud. Partly because we had to wait so long, we would've been gone already had we been seated when we arrived. Instead of asking us to please keep our kid quiet, one waiter skipped straight to scolding us in front of the entire restaurant. Other customers apologized to us later for the servers behavior.

Two stars because one waitress tried to help cheer our son up. Will...

My wife and I chose to celebrate her birthday dinner at Peony with my 3 kids. We have been going to this place since 2016 and has been our go to place, when it comes to Chinese food. As we have done in the past, we ordered our usual favorites, like the crab meat fish mew soup, house lomein, fish and tofu hot pot and Szechuan beef. We also ordered 2-togo food as well. The order came in fast but I noticed from the previous times we have been here, either for lunch or dinner in the past, servings are much smaller. Food had too many garnishing while the proteins, be it chicken or beef are barely there. But food was still good, not sure if we were just really hungry. Soon after, I asked for the bill and saw that it totaled to $130.81, which I thought was pricey. After a quick check, my daughter noticed that a $20.52 tip was already added to the bill.

So ok, we paid for it using half cash and half charged to a credit card. Took our to go and headed out . As we were entering our car, the cashier/manager went after us and yelled from the restaurant door entrance “ where’s the tip, you did not tip”. I replied back saying the total bill included the tip. She then went back inside and checked our bill and then came back out to say “sorry its’s there, never mind”. Seriously! 😡

I guess this is it Peony! Food portions shrinking and pricey too. Good thing, Jacksonville has new restaurants that are...

The food is expensive, tasteless & disgusting. I kid you NOT!!! I literally spent almost $50 for Combo Fried Rice, House Lo Mein & BBQ Pork. I got home, tasted the food, gagged, threw it away, but I at least fed the pork appetizer to my dogs. Maybe they liked it.

I don't know what people are smoking rating this place so high with reviews. I attentively read the reviews & thought I might have found a hidden gem so I told myself, "Let me try it for the first time." They can stay hidden...it wasn't worth the find.

Your taste buds must be DEAD to say this food was good in a review. I wouldn't recommend this place to a homeless person if they were feeding them for free!

I wasted $50 & ended up eating a microwaveable Kraft Mac & Cheese cup in utter disgust, but it taste better. My husband said as I walked in with the food, "That stinks. It smells burnt." Boy did it stink, in more ways than one!!!!

I'm more upset that they are wasting ingredients & passing this gross mess off as editable food vs. the fact I iterally threw away $50.

I will say this, my takeout was ready when I got there & it was piping hot. The lady who took my payment was amicable. The place looked clean. It's deceptively inviting however, in my humble opinion...they just can't cook with any flavor!!! You might be chewing on something but you won't be...
