Today after my doctor’s appointment at St. Vincent Medical Center (Riverside), I decided to stop at the Subway inside. At first, I was the only customer in line, looking over the menu, when another customer walked in behind me. The staff member skipped over me and started to assist her first. I politely said, “Excuse me, I was here first,” and while he apologized and corrected the mistake, the situation set the tone for what followed.
After placing my order for a meatball sub, I moved down to the register area. At that point, a young man working the register asked me, “What can I help you with?” in a dismissive tone. When I explained that I had already ordered and was just waiting for my sub to come out of the toaster, his response was rude and aggressive. He then questioned me by asking, “Is there a problem?” instead of offering to assist me properly. His tone and delivery came across as disrespectful and unnecessary.
I attempted to address the situation with the manager, who was standing right there. Rather than de-escalating, she raised her voice at me, which only made matters worse. At one point, the same young man shouted from the back of the store, adding to the unprofessionalism.
I felt disrespected as a customer and disappointed by both the staff and management. As a business located inside a hospital, where people come while dealing with health issues, I would expect a much higher standard of courtesy and professionalism. Because of the way I was treated, I ultimately declined the meal and left the store.

Read more*Unsafe, Unsanitary Food Handling Witnessed at this location! On the date above I was standing in line to place an order for my lunch. I witnessed a woman complete a customer’s payment transaction on the cash register with food handling gloves on. She them immediately went to the next customer in line and asked for their order without removing her food handling gloves. I them watched this lady begin to make the sandwich for that customers with the SAME CASH REGISTER & CASH CONTAMINATED GLOVES on! She picked up the sandwich meat in her hands and began portioning off some to put on the bread. The bread is now unsafe to eat and the meat is now unsafe to eat and I have no doubt that all the food prepped that day was contaminated. I stopped eating at another Subway location for this reason and after witnessing this I PROMPTLY WALKED AWAY SAYING NO WAY!
