Nothing but praise for this restaurant. Almost easy to overlook, Volcano is a quiet, unassuming Japanese/sushi spot subtly located in a shopping plaza. Walk in, grab attention of the staff if no one is at the front, and help yourself to an open seat. The menu offers typical Hibachi and sushi bar fare, but the quality of these dishes is well above average. Sushi ingredients were so fresh, and the presentation was beautiful. The sushi chefs were excellent; you can tell they put focus and effort into making a good product, which was apparent in the taste and display. I ordered chicken hibachi and the lobster tempura roll. One or two pieces of chicken were a bit grisly or overcooked, but in relation to the entire meal, not a big problem. My wife ordered seafood yaki udon soup and California roll. Volcano took the most basic, the Cali roll, and made it delicious and flavorful. Soft drink refills were free, and we got a bottle of Perfect Snow sake to share - fantastic. We got a kids' chicken yakisoba for the little one. Do not be put off by the price for the kids' menu. The portion was surprisingly generous for what you'd usually expect. At $9, it was well worth it, not much smaller than an adult serving. They offered complimentary raspberry mini-cakes for dessert, gently sweet and tasty. We really appreciate the effort and a great meal here to round out...
Read moreFood, 2.5, if I could. I'm not a big sushi guy, but I am a big habachi guy, and maybe it's just preference, but that creamy sweet ginger dressing is not yummy at all on the salad. It's soooo sweet and soupy. I prefer the carrot ginger onion dressing. With the fillet the sauce they have is just regular teriyaki. If you ask for more you get this extra sweet teriyaki syrup. The steak was fine enough, but needed a bit of a sear to give it some carmalization, the same for the vegtibles and noodles, they were just meh, and the noodles were a bit overdone. The server was nice enough but seemed a bit like she was responsible for too many tables. To fix it, offer: 1. Carrot, onion, ginger dressing - 2. Sear the meat, vegitables, and even noodles just slightly (don't overcook noodles) - 3. Offer a good steak sauce, like a terriaki ginger garlic (made sauce). ---- Sauces are big deal for a lot of people. Just my 2 cents from a...
Read moreWe recently discovered Volcano Japanese Cuisine in a local neighborhood shopping center. We tried it for lunch this week and it was an excellent experience.
The service was excellent. Our first impression of the restaurant was that it was a small, family-type restaurant with a sushi bar and a pleasant atmosphere that seats a few patrons.
The sushi rolls that I tried (shrimp tempura and lobster) were excellent. The taste was superb and the appearance of the rolls was exceptional.
My dining companion had a shrimp hibachi dish. It was a considerable amount of food, well-prepared. The shrimp had a good flavor and was not overdone—a common problem that often leads to dry and tough meat.
Overall, this was an excellent experience and well worth a try for those not familiar with...
