Jon Smith Subs — Restaurant in Jacksonville

My wife and I ate at this restaurant Monday 4/22/2024 for the first time. After reading the reviews we were looking forward to trying a couple of the sandwiches. Unfortunately when we ordered we also received an unwanted side order of attitude. My wife has some dietary restrictions which dictate her eating smaller meals. Plus she wasn't overly hungry so she wanted to order a kids size meal, which she often does at different restaurants. Initially the server, Solomon J who informed us he was the franchisee, told her kids meals were for age 12 and under. When we pointed out the menu board did not state that, he begrudgingly decided to take her order, but he went on and on about how kids meals were the loss leader on the menu and the store looses money every time they make one. When he didn't stop we both informed him he was already making us think twice about returning. A little reluctantly we decided to place the order and at least try the sandwiches. The staff quickly prepared our order and delivered it to our table. We unwrapped our sandwiches and began eating and quickly noticed the amount of mayo on each sandwich. Not just a little, there was a lot. In fact all you could really taste was the mayo. Every time I tried to take a bite, the meat and cheese tried to slide out of the other side of the sandwich which made it a little difficult to eat. Never the less we powered through lunch and both agreed this would be our last meal at this restaurant. If we are ever in that area again at any mealtime and are hungry for a sub sandwich, we'll go down to Publix and get it there. To be fair, we did notice the place was very clean and well organized and the rest rooms were spotless. The fries were pretty good, but not the best...

I’m sure “Cindy” will find this review quite lovely. I originally called @12:44 pm to place a pick up order and was told “not right now.” No reasoning, no explanation, no anything. Mhm…okay. I proceeded to ask what time should I call for pick up and she goes “hmmmmm we have 2 orders ahead of you. So, okay at this point it makes absolutely no sense that I can’t place a pick up order with two people in front of me especially if I’m doing a to go order. Okay, cool. I called back a second time at 12:52 and ask “can I place a pick up order” same person I originally spoke with says to me “now you can.” I’m all the way taken back by how unprofessional, rude, and dismissive Cindy was. I have been eyeing this place for a minute and couldn’t wait to try it out. I wouldn’t dare bother going to this place AT ALL. I’m not even sure if Cindy is her real name because when asked what her name was she goes “uh uh uh uh”. Please, train your employees to be professional, ESPECIALLY CINDY. She never wanted to take my order in the first place. She SHOULD not be on the front line if this is the way she treats...

First-time visit and definitely not my last! I stopped by John J.O.N. Smith’s Subs today for the first time and had a steak sub—and WOW. The bread was incredibly soft and flavorful, the steak and veggies were fresh, perfectly cooked, and seasoned just right. I added mayo to make it just the way I like it, which is easy to do since they give you control over your sauces.

What really stood out, besides the delicious food, was the service. The staff were fast, polite, and genuinely went above and beyond. The person making the sandwiches even came out to personally hand me my order—super thoughtful touch you don’t see often these days.

I had a 6-inch sub and thought it wouldn’t be enough… turns out it was more than satisfying. I almost ordered a 12-inch and I’m glad I didn’t—it was that filling. For the price I paid, the value was absolutely worth it. I’d choose this place over the big chain sub shops any day. They also have some outdoor seating to really enjoy the FL day as you have a meal.
