Woody's Bar-B-Q — Restaurant in Jacksonville

We visited Woodys for the first time today. It was very random. I wanted baby back ribs but they didn't have any. 15 minutes later I heard the cashier take an order on the phone where she repeated the baby back rib special aloud. I didn't say anything. I had ordered the spare ribs lunch which was about $13. I received 3 fatty spare ribs. The fries were tasteless and super old and the waitress could see that just as I could as some were brown but had the nerve to tell me they make them fresh. It's just crazy we had to have several sentences exchanged when you can look and see they were DEAD! They replaced with golden brown and hot fries, still were not good but she said they had gotten the wrong ones in. The ribs were too fatty to enjoy and most places clean them up before cooking and serving. The beans were just ok. We didn't really like any of the sauces but settled for the sweet. My husband had the all you can ear chicken. The first plate was dry but subsequent plate was better. His okra was the best thing we had, but in asking the upcharge I asked what the amount was , was it $1 just guessing and she said yes. He got two orders and we were charged $1.99 for the upcharge each. I asked her about that and she just said yes that's right. I was just like ok.... We found flavor lacking in all the food other than okra. Not sure if they are catering towards a certain crowd but I hate having to put salt on all of my food... chicken, tasteless fries, beans etc. Not sure if I'll make it to try the baby backs or not worried they don't trim and clean the meats like I'm used to, I've never seen that before, but if I do I'll stick to that and the okra. The service was really good though other than the price error. When we walked in the lady in drive-thru greeted us warmly and it didn't take long for the server to arrive. I've heard many good things about this place and was happy to finally have a chance to give them a try.

Unfortunately, the hype didn't meet my expectations. We tried the salads, one BBQ and one 3-Meat. They both contain meats that were julieneed and generous portions on top of each. The salads themselves were a good size. The dressings are homemade (Ranch and Blue Cheese were both delicious.)

Service was great. There is ample parking. The interior decorations were really nice, including the signed photo of John Wayne.

So why only 4 stars? Well, the meat just didn't take my breath away. I know we had rabbit food underneath but this should have been a way to sample the quality of their BBQ and my 3-meats were good, but not great. Frankly, they didn't have much flavor at all. No spice rub, no smokiness. The sauces on the table were also mediocre.

If I hadn't eaten BBQ at a few other places that were exceptional, I probably would have leaned into 5 stars instead of 4, but between that and the disappointment after hearing how amazing their food is just swung me the other way.

I will definitely give them another try down the road and maybe see how the ribs are, and update my review accordingly. I admit that chunks of meat vs. strips might not be a totally fair judgement, so next time I'll go for something more substantial and see...

This restaurant is awesome absolutely awesome. The food is always on point. The service is beyond compare the attention to customers is without measure one of the highest compliments I can give. The waitress Marie is absolutely my favorite and one of the best servers I've ever met and never let me go without anything that I need or fails to come through with a special request that I may have excellent service quality personality just overall wonderful person. The cook DJ is one of the best. His food is absolutely delicious and flavorful every single time. The portions are well worth the price and then some but I must say the baby back ribs and the ribs are just to die for. I've been dining at this restaurant for many years, and I have always had the best experience the best meal, and have taken many of my family members to Enjoy a great meal here for sometime and as always, I've never ever had any kind of complaint I highly recommend recommend you try it out for yourself and you'll see exactly how good quality service and excellent food can enlighten your mood and change your day.
