We came in at almost 2:00 on a Sunday afternoon, and there was still a line, almost to the door. Because the inside space is on the small side, the line winds between tables of customers enjoying their meals— a little awkward for them, perhaps, but it did give us a good chance to see what the food looked like before we got to the counter to order. There was no question that we would be trying the brisket. In order to sample an additional meat, my wife and I ordered a two-meat plate with ribs as the second choice. Our son chose to have his brisket on a sandwich, with mac and cheese as the side. To round out our meal, we picked cucumber salad and the elote macaroni salad as our sides. We found one of the last empty tables and waited briefly for our food. It came out quickly, and looking pretty. You could tell that attention was paid to each dish, with the sides playing an important role rather than just taking up space on the plate. All three (I did sample the boy’s mac and cheese) were excellent. The mac and cheese was the epitome of homemade comfort food. Large chunks of fresh vegetables in the cucumber salad provided contrast to the meat, cheese and pasta. The macaroni salad had just the right amount of elote flavor to give a pleasant Tex-Mex twist to one of my favorite sides. Our slices of brisket may have been the thickest that I have ever encountered. Two huge slabs of beef anchored the plate, a generous portion for the price. They honored our request for half lean and half moist, and it was easy to tell which was which. Still, both tended just slightly towards the drier, firmer side. The flavor was fantastic, especially the crispy bits of black bark. Two ribs accompanied the brisket, and the one I ate was one of the best in recent memory. It was meaty, seasoned well, and cooked to perfection with just the right amount of smoke. I am usually a huge brisket fan, but I think I may have gone for another rib instead of more brisket in this case. Either way, I would have been happy. I am excited to have another possible option for seriously good barbecue in town. As long as they can hold to the level of service and food quality I experienced on this visit, I can see them coming close to topping my list for the area. That will require a few more trips to say for sure. But I am already looking forward to making them.

Food – five stars for the ribs alone. Service – had a pick up order, but the service on the phone and in person with stellar. Atmosphere – there were boxes stacked, and some parts clearly weren’t being used, but the dining room was clean, and the noise level was low. My son and I have been trying to go by here for a couple of months, but his schedule only allows us to go to lunch on Mondays in the Yellow Rose is closed on Mondays, so we just weren’t making a connection. Fast-forward to tonight and he came in tired from work, the rest of the family was out of town, so I took advantage and got us two platters, sides, and tacos to try.. As I said above, Service was stellar both in person and on the phone and the host is definitely steered me right on what items to get and what I am looking for popular. When I went to pick up the food, I was a little annoyed because the person in front of me was taking so long, but then I remembered they took about that long with me on the phone so I have nothing to complain about. Yellow Rose know something about Service that’s for sure. You wanna know what else food more specifically Texas barbecue : Original sauce- my favorite, rich flavor and not too sweet. Mustard sauce - another good one, but not as good as the original. Charro beans - wowza, these were good. Cabbage - I do t like cabbage, but this was a good choice. Elote Macaroni - this fell flat for me, but my son LOVED it. Brisket - hardy, meaty taste, nice crust on the outside. Ribs -seriously, WTH? These were fantastic, they don’t need sauce, the rub they put on is delicious. There is a limited menu, but they have a wall of butcher paint with specials and a board on the counter stating what they are out of. I would like to dine in next time and try some of the specials, sone of them looked great.

As a native Houstonian, I was intrigued when I saw this BBQ spot featured online and decided to give it a try for carryout. Overall, it was a solid experience with some highlights and a few areas for improvement. The standout item for me was the crispy taco—tasty and creative, but it definitely needed more salsa. I initially assumed it came with queso instead of shredded cheese, and I think a good Tex-Mex queso would elevate it even more. Swapping the raw onions for pickled ones might also add a nice touch. If I had been dining in, I probably would’ve just asked for extra salsa, which might’ve solved it on the spot. As for the meats, the ribs were easily the best. The sausage has a lot to be desired and greasy, and the brisket leaned dry—I didn’t get an option to choose between lean or fatty. It would be nice to have that choice, especially for a BBQ spot trying to make a name. Overall, the portion was small and not a great value. The sides were a mixed bag. The mac and cheese was excellent in my opinion—creamy with a nice kick, but be aware it’s not kid-friendly due to the heat. The cucumber salad was just okay, and the elote macaroni salad didn’t really stand out—it lacked the tang or punch I associate with elote. Unfortunately, they were out of charro beans, which I was really looking forward to trying. The sauces, though, were fantastic—rich, flavorful, and definitely the highlight of the meal. I do wish they had thrown in some bread with the order, since I noticed they had a self service station, or at least tell me to grab some myself. While it didn’t quite match up to some of my local favorites like Woodpeckers, I see real potential here. With a few tweaks and more consistency, I think they could definitely grow into a strong competitor in the BBQ scene

A Hidden Gem for BBQ Lovers – A Must-Try Experience

From the moment my husband and i walked in, it was clear this local barbecue joint is something special. Forget the chain spots like Sonny’s or Bono’s down the road—this place raises the bar with incredibly flavorful, tender meats that truly stand out. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone perfection, and the brisket was juicy and rich, unlike the often dry offerings at larger chains.

One of the standout sides was the elote mac salad, bursting with flavor and originality. The beans were another highlight—loaded with what we believe was pulled pork, and generously so. Every bite had a satisfying amount of meat, making it one of our top recommendations. Seriously, get the beans!

We discovered this spot after seeing a video on TikTok and decided to check it out. We’re so glad we did. Not only was the food outstanding, but the hospitality was equally impressive. We had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners, who was incredibly kind and clearly passionate about the restaurant. Ellie, who took our order, was warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. Both staff members at the counter gave us fantastic menu suggestions and made us feel right at home.

That said, there are a few small enhancements we believe could elevate the experience even further. The mac and cheese featured a unique pasta shape and was well-seasoned, but we think a creamier sauce and a broiled, cheesy topping would make it even more memorable. Additionally, replacing the black napkin holders with standard paper towel rolls would be a more practical choice—BBQ is messy, and easy access to paper towels goes a long way. Lastly, offering a wider variety of BBQ sauces could give customers more ways to customize their meal and add to that comforting, home-style experience we associate with great barbecue.

We understand the restaurant is currently in its soft opening phase, and it’s clear that exciting things are ahead. We’re genuinely looking forward to coming back and watching this place flourish. It has all the ingredients—literally and figuratively—to become a...
