My family have driven across the Border from Louisiana many times to eat at this restaurant. The food have always been good on those visit. My current review is from my experience on 1 January 2024. My family got to the restaurant around 3 PM. We had a large group and waited approximately 30 minutes to be seated. I called the restuarant the day before to check what the menu would be. I was told barbecue chicken, beef tips, fried fish and fried pork chops. When we got to the buffet bar there was no barbecue chicken.and no beef tips. The fried fish was fried so thin there was mostly fish batter and very little fish, chicken pot pie, a beef stew and something that look like chicken fried steak. The hispanic cooks insisted it was pork chops. There was fried mushrooms, cream corn, rice and gravy, cabbage, blackeye peas that were tasteless and hard, yams with marshmellows and green beans. There were no potatoes. They apparently have new cooks because the food was very bland. I was disappointed because my family drove 45 minutes expecting the menu advertised when I called the day before. Another customer said she called the day before and was given the same menu I received. We ate and left in less...
Read moreWe happened to be in Jasper Tx. on a Friday and decided to check out Cedar Tree Restaurant. Friday and Saturday nights is their Seafood Buffet. We got there just after 5 pm. There is plenty of parking available. There was no line. There was a good variety of fried seafood (shrimp, clams, several types of fish). They also had fresh boiled shrimp and crawfish. They had frog legs and other options including fried chicken. There was a large assortment of cooked vegetables (green beans, cream corn, lima beans, black eyed peas, etc). They had mac n cheese and mashed potatoes. They had a salad bar, fresh fruit and a large assortment of desserts. Off to the side were rolls, cornbread, hush puppies. We felt the price was reasonable for an all you can eat seafood buffet. I particularly liked the fried shrimp and frog legs. It was also nice that we were able to get our drinks to go when we were done. The staff was constantly cleaning and restocking the buffet. Never did I see an item run out. The servers were friendly and efficient. I liked that we never felt rushed and could leisurely enjoy our meal. The restaurant was clean. I would definitely go back the next time I am in Jasper whether for the seafood or...
Read moreWe arrived after 8pm on a Sunday, so weren't expecting much. Almost no customers at that time. Despite closing at 9pm, the buffet was still full and being refreshed right until we left.
Our server JoAnn was top-notch, and pretty much everything I had was solid food for the price. Soup (2 kinds), salad bar with lots of options, a number of hot main and side dishes on offer. I had pork chops, catfish, grilled fish, broccoli-cheese rice casserole, candied sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce. Lots of dessert options, too many for 1 meal! Pecan pie, coconut cream pie, bread pudding, and soft serve vanilla ice cream.
We even were offered a takeaway for our scraps for our service dog in the truck, and more ice tea to go.
All in all? Solid home cooking, cute and clean atmosphere, great, personable service, and real value for money on the Sunday evening buffet. We'll have to give the Fri or Sat seafood buffet a go...
