I would give zero stars if I could. We've been coming here for years, and I'll never return after the way we were treated today. The food has always been decent, but never out of this world. Honestly, the parking lot saves this place and the main reason we kept coming back. It's easy. The food is OK, the service has always felt rushed, but we wanted to support a neighborhood place. Today, I'm catching up with a friend who I haven't seen in months, and the owner came over to us and actually asked us to leave. They needed our table to fit a big party. He didn't ask to relocate us. He said we had been there long enough, and he needed to make money. Are you serious? His EXACT words. We asked if he was kicking us out, and he flat out said yes. He needed the table, and they were busy. Wait, what?! We were paying customers who both were having full breakfasts. It's not like we were taking up a huge table and only drinking coffee. We got there at 10, and this was happening a little after 11. This was after we had OK food (again, nothing you can't get from hundreds of other restaurants in Chicago) and the waitress spilled hot coffee on both of us. To top it off, they were literally pulling our table away as I was trying to strap my 6 month old into her carseat, and hit her seat nearly knocking it over. I supported this neighborhood place long enough. I will never, ever go back and would never recommend it. I was stunned at how we were treated. There are too many options in Chicago to get away with mediocre food and treating your...
Read moreOur waitress was very nice and accommodating with our needs, however the owner was extremely rude chewing out his wait staff in the middle of service, telling a customer that he could not seat them because she was waiting for her full party and then further saying if she didn't like it he could hand her the keys and she could run his restaurant. Now I understand if the restaurant is packed requiring all parties to be present, but it was not busy and his retort was not warranted. To add to our horrible experience at original Alps Pancake House I ordered the chicken fried steak it wasn't steak. It was ground up compressed hamburger meat. Our breakfast was $40 for 2 people. Save yourself time, money and being fooled by false advertising and go to some other place that will actually serve what is on their menu. Lastly, when I went to pay the owner did not ask about our experience or how the food was. He didn't even look at me until I said to him that he was rude and uncouth to both his wait staff and his customers. His reply? He said it was unlady like for me to call him out like that. I added you clearly have a distorted view on how a good restaurant serves their customers. This restaurant serves bad food, lies about the food they're serving, treats people like garbage and then dismisses their customers issues like it is their fault. Please save yourself the aggravation and go...
Read moreFor breakfast, I went to the Original Alps because it looked big and welcoming from the outside. I was always curious about the place. The pictures of the food and environment looked great too. Well, I sure did judge a book by it's cover. My food was mediocre at best, i had "the big man" breakfast special. It was all bland and weak. I had to pile on the ketchup and hot sauce in order to taste something. My girlfriend's food though, it was just an embarrassment to the culinary industry. She ordered the "all veggie skillet". The toast inedible, like chewing wet cardboard. The veggies, some were still raw and big chopped/diced pieces mixed with the hot eggs and cheese, very off setting. Some veggies still had the stem, unbelievable... Her full order was returned, a hungry disatisfied customer was left. who's the prep? Was he hungover or was he told he was getting suspended at the end of his day? Just pure carelessness. The waitress was rude, didn't care to even look at you when you spoke, it seemed like a huge favor every time we asked a question. My experience there was like, "why am I here? It seems like they don't even want me here..." Well, they got their point across, never going back. Ohh, and I still had to pay the...
