8/7 edit:
No one from CU has reached out addressing the issues listed in original review, so I will not be a patron or consider recommending this place until that is done, if ever.
I want to support this place since it is local and they provide good food/coffee, but I've had mixed experiences over the past year, with the most recent being negative in terms of both customer service and food quality.
If you order through the "Joe" app, it seems that more often than not CU does not have all the menu items listed available, even though you can order items as if they are. The staff may or may not let you know before you arrive for the pick up via text or call. Also, I think the quality of the food depends on who is making it. The last couple toasted omelettes I had didn't seem toasted and lacked flavor, whereas initial few experiences with them was good. Can you please ask staff to refrain from putting butter packs on top of hot omelettes/other warm food items in boxes? The last couple times this happened, a bit of a mess from melting and butter could not be salvaged.
What made the last experience particularly negative was the lack of service. I understand your staff get very busy, but there was no line of people, yet I stood in front of the counter for over 10 minutes with two staff failing to acknowledge me. One female even came from behind the front counter to look at something on the posted menu and completely ignored me standing right next to her and continued to ignore me when she returned behind the counter with me standing directly in front of her. Again, I get the busy factor and that there are peak times, but that doesn't mean staff cannot acknowledge patrons waiting so the customers at least know staff are aware of them and will help them when they can.
It seems like staff training for consistency reinforcement/customer service and a retooling of the app to coincide with what items are available are needed. In addition, a better system for pick ups where for instance, people's names can be written on a white board or something so that they can know if their order is ready when they come in might be useful if their order items cannot be put out on the counter with their names visible. I may return if these items are addressed, but if not, I will sadly have to forgo future trips...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen I make my way to Chicago, I always try to swing by Cafe Urbano. This place is unique and oh so charming - definitely a spot to savor.
The food and drinks are Delish (with a capital D). I fell in love with the chagacinno - affectionately known as the chaga chaga chaga. The woo woo is implied :). Made from chaga mushrooms, this latte not only packs a tasty punch but also gives a healthy boost to your immunity. Nothing like a coffee drink that tastes good and is good for you. Itās like the Cheerios of coffee drinks!
We ordered a quesadilla and a wrap. Both were on point - both filling and with solid flavor. I loved how the wrap had plenty of gooey cheese and avocado that melted in my mouth. Everything was fresh and high quality; not prepackaged, flavorless, and overpriced food that you grab from the case of a chain coffee shop on every corner of Chicago (that might rhyme with war bucks).
The service is top notch. The staff are always willing to provide a smile and even play a quick game of rock paper scissors - for what itās worth be ready for a solid rock throw from the barista. I always have a soft spot in my heart for those who put up with my reindeer games with a smile. I definitely left with more joy after my visit to Cafe Urbano.
This is a unique shop in a town full of run of the mill coffee shops offering the same coffee drinks. I love how Cafe Urbano is creative and innovative while offering quality food, drinks and service. I canāt wait to get back to this cute little shop and a little chaga chaga...
Ā Ā Ā Read morePLEASE hire another person to work behind the bar with the Barista!!!! One person can not handle the traffic in this place on most mornings. Every time I have been it takes a minimum of 20 minutes to get an iced coffee that should take 2 seconds to make. I'm not even sure I even got iced coffee this morning? I'm pretty sure it was a latte and that takes double the time and it's not what I ordered. I definitely did not get the scone that I ordered even after asking if it was the correct scone. She said yeah it should be šššš. Got in my car and took a bite of some orange flavored something that I did not order. I have been a barista before so I understand things take time but I also understand that one person can not take all of those orders and make all the drinks in a timely manner. I really want to be able to come get a coffee here occasionally but I don't have time to when it takes so long to get a simple order. Such a bummer. Another person behind the bar to even just do the simple orders would help...
