have had it a few times, it was really decent when it first opened but like most restaurants now a days, especially PR ones, once it gets a customer base, starts slacking in quality. I was not in the mood to cook today, spent the day cleaning and ran out of steam and decided to order since it is 10 blocks from the house and hubby hates fast food. I ordered the bistec encebollado and Chuletas, both with arroz blanco y habichuelas. Also ordered a papa relleno, alcapurria and pastelillos. Spent a good $54 dollars for garbage! The Bistec was dry, overcooked with not an ounce of jugo/oil and there were literally 4 itty bitty pieces of onion. Really??? a whole onion costs like 60 cents and I am sure they get it cheaper, they could not have cut up a full onion? The beans were water, almost no beans and salty! This seems to be a problem with many PR restaurants now a days. Do they know the beans should be a little thick, some saucy consistency, not water. The Alcapurria was burnt and so were the chuletas, they were hockey pucks! The only thing that was passable was the white rice, pastelillos and papa rellena, and they were not amazing, small and cheap, but they were not burnt and flavorless. Where do they get off charging the prices they do for what they are serving???? Never again.
Also, this is not a paid or solicited advertisement, just want to give some neighborly feedback on where to get great food... If you want good Latin food, try Omarcito's on Hamlin, right off Fullerton. Unassuming place on Hamlin so it is not getting noticed, but it is a Cuban/Ecuadorian infusion, with fresh ingredients, everything made there is fresh and delicious, beans, rice, special green mojo sauce that will blow you away, carne frita that you can actually chew and has flavor! Best Ropa Vieja ever. You may wait longer as your fresh food is being prepared, but the friendliness and customer service cannot be beat, and the ambiance...
Read moreFood - Maybe an off day??? First time here. I've had their catering and that was amazing. Not the same feeling when I went.
Pollo guisado had good taste but on the salty side. However, mostly bones. White Rice was on point. Habichuelas tasted like salt and sofrito, and leaves. I was missing that tomato sauce kick. Arroz con gandules was ok. It could have used about 3 more minutes in the heat. Jugo de Parcha tasted either from powder or concentrate, either way, the flavor was very very sweet and overwhelming. I had to add water and made 2 juices out of one.
The vegetarian jibarito was a disaster. Nothing but a pound of chopped up tomatoes with a piece of lettuce and honestly with the amount of chopped up tomatoes I couldn't even tell you what other veggies were in it. They covered the whole plate with chopped tomatoes and smother the jibarito.
Steak Jibarito was good and on-point.
Service was great. Servers were attentive and polite and ordering was quick and easy.
Atmosphere was good. Music was really good, just a small place. It was a bit overwhelming to eat in. They should use the side door only as to prevent so much foot traffic through the dinning area. Is hard to enjoy a good meal in peace with all the in's and out from the carry-out. At one point, someone was literally standing 2 inches from my chair waiting for their carry out food.
Overall, I would go again if I am close by and hungry, I don't think I would drive in just...
Read moreThis place was just Chaos when I walked in Friday night. No one greeted me. I had to ask a Customer what to do cause ALL TABLES WERE TAKEN WITH LIKE 20 STANDING OR MORE. CUSTOMER TOLD ME TO PUT MY OWN NAME ON A WHITE DRY ERASE BOARD. I DID BUT IN MY HEAD WAS THINKING...SHOULDN'T ONE OF THESE EMOLOYEES PUT ME DOWN? SMH AFTER WAITING SONE TIME FINALLY CALLED. THE PLACE WAS SOOOO LOUD. PEOPLE SCREAMING, BABIES CRYING, KIDS SCREAMING. I BROUGHT TWO KIDS MYSELF BUT THEY WERE QUIET AND BEHAVED SO WELL TRAUMATIZED OF EVERYTHING GOING ON. FINALLY GET MY AND ONE DAUGHTERS FOOD BUT HAD TO WAIT FOR MY OTHER KIDS FOOD SOMETIME. I GET THE JIBARITO WITH ARROZ CON GANDULES. THE RICE WAS SUPER COLD AND THE STEAK THEY PUT ON JIBARITO WAS COLD TOO. Only semi warm was the banana. I also ate Alcapuria which in the beginning was served fast. After my JIBARITO the waitress never came back to check up on us. I needed another soda but no waitress. Fyi..my seats were dirty and there is some hole in middle that was filled with rice, bread and who knows what else! I'm glad I didn't bring my husband cause he would of been do mad with everything that was going on. I will not be returning. Very disappointed. They had alot of employees but still couldn't keep up. The place is too small for the amount of people that come in during dinner. You feel forced to eat your food fast and get out cause their are so many waiting for tables. I was too nice to tip a...
