A GEM! 💎 This is where you come if you want a meal to blow your mind! I honestly do not get amazed by tacos easily (due to my overexposure to them) but this was top notch. Tacos de asada and al pastor are to die for, tortillas are slightly crispy and amazing, cecina is soft, perfectly cooked, comes with frijoles under it, suadero is succulent and full of flavor. Honestly if anyone knows better al pastor in the greater Chicago area please let me know. The hand made huarache with al pastor is to die for! Horchata is wonderful here as well, very sweet but nevertheless wonderful. The decoration and massive dining tables inside makes me feel like I am at someone’s abuelas home, in a good way. Staff are friendly and quite sweet, dining room and bathrooms are very clean. Menu is huge, lots of options including caldos, huaraches, quesadillas etc. I will definitely be back again and again.

I have been to another TAcONAZO, and this place felt different. When I came in, many drivers were picking up and delivering orders in none recyclable white containers. I ordered the special, which was caldo and birriaqueso. The food was warm, not hot, and the caldo lacked flavor. The lemon, onion, and cilantro were not fresh, same for the tacos. They tasted like they had been sitting on the stove all morning. The cash register was too crowded with food items and had written signs everywhere. I had to pay for parking, but I parked in front of El Taconazo. My advice is to find a better birria and ask your cooks to make tacos at the moment with handmade tortillas. Also, go to a printing shop and make the signs attractive and clean-looking. My bill was nearly $15 for two tacos and one Mexican Coca-Cola. I do not recommend this place.

El Taconazo It's a nice a nice place for a decent mexican style dish. Not authentic enough to call a mexican style restaurant, it lacks the flavor but it's good enough to enjoy lunch or dinner. The service is great, the atmosphere is kind of poor as tables need paint and the broken chairs at the entrance looks bad, anyway I found the tables clean, the bathroom has no towels or hands dryer. Besides this, be ready to enjoy a meal. Update... After 3 times going there, the food was not that good, I do not expect to go back at all. From 5 stars to 1, Food from 5 to 1, Service, from 5 to 3, why in service? Well, after I order 3 meals, we got the food in less than 1 minute, that's not fast, that means, food is cooked, it looses flavor and texture, consome was water with beef flavor.

Full disclosure is that I deliver for Doordash on the side and am always on the look out for great places. I made so many deliveries from this restaurant that I had to try it. I went in at the end of a shift to find out what the deal was that made the place very popular. They have been working hard for a family owned restaurant with deliveries. When I run Doordash runs, I like the Wicker Park/ Logan Square area because there are a LOT of restaurants. But this one is one of my top places to deliver for in the area. I can pick up 3-5 times a day from there.

So I stopped in and talked to Abby, one of the family members. She was super helpful and friendly. She walked me thru the menu to help me decide. I settled on a simple Quesadilla El Tio since it was late and I didn’t want to stuff myself before bed. It DID NOT disappoint. It was cheesy in the best ways and the beef was tender busting with flavor.

If you like heat in your meal then ask for the housemate hot sauce. Abby let me try a taste on a couple of nachos. It was soooooo good. It didn’t slap you across the face. It had a smooth slow burn that slowly heated my mouth and body. And it lingered in the background for a long time. I took some home and saved it for my eggs two days later.

I will be back to eat there again and look forward to seeing Abby and her family again.

As a driver, they are always friendly and usually have the orders...

⭐ El Taconazo El Tio – Always Consistent, Always Authentic ⭐

I’ve been coming to El Taconazo El Tio for years, and what keeps me coming back is the consistency... the food tastes exactly the same every single time. That’s such a rare and positive thing these days, when so many restaurants change their flavors, staff, and vibe so often that you eventually stop going.

This taqueria is the opposite ... it’s authentic from the moment you walk in until the moment you leave. The team is made up of absolute sweethearts: Matilda, Lupita, and the younger sisters who work there always greet you with warmth and kindness. If you take the time to get to know them, you’ll notice it’s not a cold, transactional exchange — it feels like family, like an exchange of community energy.

The chefs in the back even peek out to see who they’re feeding ... which I think is adorable. The whole experience feels “del barrio” in the best way... humble, heart-centered people who truly care about their food and their customers.

✅ Food highlights:

Fresh and flavorful guacamole 🥑

Delicious natural juices 🍊

Reliable vegetarian-friendly options 🌱 (which I’ve appreciated for over 12 years!)

El Taconazo El Tio isn’t just a place to eat... it’s a place to feel welcomed and cared for. Highly recommend it for anyone who wants authentic food and genuine,...

If you're looking for amazing and authentic birria tacos, i would absolutely recommend this placed. The 2 tacos are served with consume, limes, diced white onions, cilantro, and a spicy birria salsa on the side. The birria was so tender and flavorful. The salsa picante they serve specifically with this dish was sooooo good and actually spicy. They doubled up on the tortillas, which were really crunchy. The consume had great depth of flavor too and it all just worked so well together. I grew up eating birria tacos so this is the real deal. Although they were a bit oily, that's just the nature of the birria and melted cheese. I also had a carnitas taco to start with, which was also fantastic and really fresh. I almost wish I had skipped on it because it was super filling and I only got through that and one of the two birria tacos. Also, I was pleasantly surprised that they served Coke Zero. Lastly, the lady's working tonight were so friendly and accommodating. They gave me an extra salsa to take home and aluminum foil to wrap my consume cup so it wouldn't spill on the wait home. My bf and I had a great experience and we will be coming back. Thank you for the great food...
