La Michoacana Chicago — Restaurant in Jefferson Township

This was my first time visiting this place to buy some yogurt, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. When I arrived, there were no clear instructions or signs indicating how the process works or whether there’s a queue system. Not knowing the procedure, I unknowingly stood in front of a station. After about 10 minutes, someone finally told me I needed to wait in line. I accepted my mistake and got in the queue.

Eventually, it was my turn and someone asked what I needed. I told them I wanted yogurt, and they directed me to the next station. I stood there for around 15 minutes, but no one acknowledged me or asked for my order. Meanwhile, customers who arrived after me were getting served before me. It felt chaotic and unfair.

What bothered me most was that it seemed like they were giving priority to certain customers — especially Mexican customers — while others, like me, were being ignored. That made me feel uncomfortable and disrespected. I spent nearly 40 minutes there, and it was a frustrating and disheartening experience overall.

The lady I got was really rude and it looked like she didn’t even know what she was doing. She was wearing glasses and her hair tied up in a pony tail. For starters I had ordered a agua strawberry fresca and then my partner was trying to order a milkshake and when my partner told her the flavor she was like we don’t have that flavor when clearly it was right there and her attitude just kept getting worse. I really wanted a funnel cake so I ordered one and she tells me they don’t sell those there and I tried explaining it to her it was on the menu and what it looked like and instead she offered me a churro so I just said I was done ordering and she did mess up one of my orders so I was already pissed I went to pay and whole time she was mad total was about 25$ so I gave her 25$ and she started giving me more attitude because I didn’t tip. Therefore the service here wasn’t great nor do I plan going back there. There are a lot of great options here for ice cream (I haven't tried the savory offerings but I'm sure they're comparable to most fast food, cheap and tasty albeit calorie-dense) and I've only tried a few so far! You've got your standards like vanilla, strawberry with or without dairy, chocolate, a half-dozen different nut flavors, cookie dough, legit Oreo, cheese (not so strange if you enjoy the occasional chilled cheesecake with crumb crust), and a bunch of different sorbet options. The best thing about La Michoacana here is that it is very fair-priced. I spent five dollars on a double-scoop waffle cone (11pm munchies will do this to you) and this cone was as big as my head, like, it could've fed three small children with how massive it was.
