Let me start by saying the sushi was very good the music was just right and had a pretty decent ambience. But I would like to make a statement about my server! I own a business in the service industry and I am just boarding the owners that the lady with The heavy eyeliner couldn’t be more rude unprofessional and did not communicate whatsoever. I never give bad reviews and I believe whoever owns this restaurant put too much time into the food and Decour to realize how awful there server could be so please take this as a chance to totally re-train her and possibly give her something to make her a little nicer . Aside from being totally rude from the Minute I stepped into the place there was a miscommunication on one of the items I ordered . Now for the reason I gave it four stars, the chef was nice enough to make me what I wanted And he came out and communicated in a very pleasant manner, But the main waitress left the unwanted item on the bill I asked her nicely even though she went from rude to super mean why the returned item was on my bill and she snapped at me Telling me that’s what I ordered! Then she Reluctantly went and changed it and basically threw my check at me . I had enough and told her I am a business owner and I eat out sometimes twice a day and I really enjoyed the food but she needs to learn how to treat people and communicate better and to crack a little smile wouldn’t hurt! I walked out of a place for the first time ever not leaving a tip. To the owners of ninja please for your own sake re-train this person I will be back and if I am treated this way again I will write a one star review I own a business and would never do this to another business but this...
Read moreOn this night we visited Ninja Sushi in Portage Park for a late night dinner. We had talked about this place but I wasn’t sure that it was a good choice for me. It seemed gimmicky. I was wrong! The theme ties nicely with a homey Japanese ambiance end decor inside. Feels like a Wicker Park place in Portage Park. But… the real surprise was in the food! Here we go! We ordered Cucumber and Fried Tofu with Peanut sauce, Tamako, Woon Sen Pad Thai, Veggie Monster Maki, and Spider Maki. And since it’s a BYOB, I chose to pair that with ROAM Hard Kombucha Hibiscus Berry. The salad was very tasty with the dressing being well balanced but light on the sweetness and tanginess. Now… here is where the story takes a violent turn. I DO NOT LIKE TOFU and used to think that it was a food that should have never been made. UNTIL I tried Ninja’s Fried Tofu. It was fried crispy and with a firm yet light and fluffy inside. Totally different than any other tofu I’ve ever tasted. The peanut sauce was a rich pairing for it and was absolutely delicious. Tamako was Tamako, light and fluffy. Then came the Pad Thai and the rolls. The rolls, made fresh with quality ingredients you could taste. Complex yet subtle and definitely delicious! The Pad Thai was nothing short of fantastic! I asked for medium hot and they nailed it! It was lightly sweet and spicy and very tasty. Well balanced and not oily with good sized and plentiful shrimp. The presentation on every dish was beautiful and colorful and artsy. The service was awesome even as we were some of the last customers to leave at closing and this made us put Ninja on our Portage Park Fave list. Thank you for a...
Read moreI never thought I would be that person but…. if I could give this restaurant zero stars I would. Unfortunately, Google doesn’t have that option. I was really looking forward to trying this place given its great reviews but sadly I won’t ever get to try it out. We waited 20+ minutes in line, and the lady at the front never bothered to acknowledge us. Instead, another customer walked in shortly after us and was immediately taken care of (he picked up an order). As we waited, I attempted to take the initiative to place my order by making eye contact with her, to no avail. Talk about awkward!!!The lady never even bothered to look at our direction! She did, however, successfully answer a phone call and took their order! I have to admit it did cross my mind to call in my order while standing in line RIGHT IN FRONT OF HER since that seemed to be the only way to successfully place an order. I’m not really sure what went wrong— whether she thought we were still contemplating the menu or maybe we seemed like we weren’t ready— but one thing is for sure I will not be returning nor recommending this restaurant. This whole encounter was just awkward and disappointing. I sincerely hope they improve their customer service before they lose more...
