A StarA Star
My partner and i came in after watching a video on TikTok about the massive burritos and tortas. It's easy to find, hard to park. When we came in, there were barely anyone waiting on food. We ordered 2 drinks and one burrito. They gave us some chips and an assortment of dip, but one look at this dip, and i could tell someone had used it prior. The salsa had no juice, and the green salsa had that 'olden ring' where it had been full but is half full. We passed on the salsa, and the chips were bland, without salt, and tasted store bought. Few minutes after we ordered, groups after groups of people came in ordering take out. One 2 person group came in, sat and ordered. They were done with the hoards of people and the group of 2 had sent one of their burritos back to the kitchen. They received their second burrito and nearly finished their meal by the time we finally got our singular burrito. All this in a matter of 20 minutes. But who knows, maybe they have an 'order ahead' thing. Of they do, i recommend using it. The atmosphere was special, not in a way i like, perhaps others though. Stuffed, taxidermy, animals over the walls, at least the areas were clean. The tables are huge and I felt like a river came between my partner and i. We finally got our meal, it was massive. Easily fed both of us. However they didn't mention that instead of the $9.99 price that was posted on the menu they handed us, that we ordered off of, had skyrocketed to $15 for the burrito AND they ONLY accepted cash. On top of that, on the menu said that 18% gradituity applied to parties of 2 or more. Isn't that nearly everyone? Anyway, i was blown away when we had to come up with $5 extra because the burrito we prefer was $9.99 but somehow our order totaled $23. With 2 non alcoholic beverages (tap water, horchata $4, and soda $4), I'm not the best at math, but $10+$8+Chicago 10%tax does NOT equal 23. But that's where their additional gradituity comes in. Its after tax, not before it. So they're charging us on the tax the city has, what?? My partner's words: "it was ok. Not the best, not the worst. The burrito was mostly cold lettuce, the cheese wasn't melted, the meat wasn't hot. Felt like eating a taco salad" i asked him if he would come back, with a hesitant "ehh, maybe" as their response. Either way, all in all, the food was ok, the portions are huge, the price was underhanded, the area was clean, the service was nice but a bit slow. Come here at your own time and i hope your experience was better than our first. I won't be returning here. *Image had been enlarged*

I have been here on many occasions and have had no issues whatsoever. Food has always been good and service as well, however tonight we came here to eat and the service was not great at all. We walked in and the music was loud. We had to walk to the cashier to ask if we could sit anywhere. We had a gentleman come to the table and asked for our drink order and walked away like normal. He brought us our drinks and immediately walked away, didn’t ask if we were ready to order. We waited for a few minutes and had to wave that we ready to order. A waitress comes and takes our order. We ordered a torta and burrito, and when they gentleman came back after 10 minutes or so, he brings a gordita. We looked at each other confused because we didn’t order the gordita, so he takes it back and moments later the waitress comes back with my torta and sets down the torta. She claims that we ordered the gordita and asks me didn’t you guys say gordita. We once again reiterated no we ordered a torta and burrito, she starts to has an attitude with us saying no you didn’t and if take this back I’ll have to pay for this if you don’t take it. We tell it’s not what we ordered. And in all honesty, if the music wasn’t playing so loud this all would have been avoided. She kept pushing and saying that she was right and we were wrong. After a few minutes of back and forth, she asked what kind of burrito we wanted but honestly after the way we were treated, we didn’t feel comfortable eating here. So politely I asked for a to go box, the waiter brings a long piece of aluminum foil and a bag. First time a restaurant has ever done this. 😕🤷‍♀️ I wrapped up my torta, we went to pay for the food and left. Food is still good, agua de jamaica tasted off and sevice was terrible. I recommend ordering to go or on a delivery service.

I was very pleased after eating here. I learned about this place through a Facebook reel. I had to go and try one of their jumbo tortas or jumbo burritos. I opted for the latter. When it came out I thought to myself "I got this!". Boy was I mistaken. Halfway through I threw in the towel. Biggest burrito I've ever seen. I blame it on the basket of chips and salsa they brought out to accompany my meal. Those are my weakness. I polished off the entire basket! 😬 The burrito was very flavorful. Hefty too. Plenty of meat. I ordered the steak burrito. Next time I will have to try their jumbo torta. The salsa selection was ok. They didn't have any tomatillo salsa which is my favorite on burritos. They brought out three different salsas which seemed to be mild, spicy, and hot. All were good, but I've had better. The service was friendly. My server had a smile at all times. The other server there was a bit more serious. Focused on her work more than the people. It was late so maybe she was just tired. 🤷🏻 The location is on the smaller side, but I found a table right away as it was late in the evening when I went. There is a cash only sign, but the server informed me they do accept credit cards. There was no extra fee to my knowledge, at least it didn't itemize it on the receipt. They also say there will be a charge of $1 for a to go box. They simply brought me some foil and a bag at no extra charge. Parking could be challenging as it's street parking on a busy street. I had to circle around once and found a spot within a very short walking distance to the restaurant. Overall, I was very pleased with my meal and will visit again next time I'm in Chicago. Definitely have to go back to try their jumbo torta next time. Enjoy!

I was reading through other's reviews on other sites that there were some problematic experiences. They listed things like being charged more than expected, baby food-like sauces, and less than attentive service. I have, however been searching for some good Mexican food since it moved out to Chicago from Arizona, so I wanted to see for myself. While I can say I was pleased to see that I was not charged more than expected, in fact I would say that the prices are very reasonable for the portion that you get (which are massive BTW); there was a little "nickel-and-diming" going on. They automatically add 18% for parties of only 4 or more, and they charge a $0.50 boxing fee if you want to save your leftovers (and if you don't order to share, you will have leftovers), but they don't box it for you 🤔. The menu is also slightly convoluted in such a way that I can see how people could feel as though they're getting overcharged if they aren't reading it super carefully. Regarding the service, it started out really well and they were friendly throughout, but weirdly our server became less attentive there more that business slowed down. Finally the food. As I mentioned before they give you an unbelievable portion so it's a good idea to share. I got carne asada tacos, and they were really pretty good. The carne asada was flavorful and juicy and the rice was really good. My husband got chicken enchiladas suiza and the sauce was very tomato-y (would have made a great pizza sauce, but kind of weird for enchiladas), and the some of shredded chicken in it was so overcooked and dry that it was difficult to chew. So overall, the experience was a little underwhelming but not awful. I would just suggest that you order to share, read the menu carefully, don't go if you're in a rush due to the wait staff, and avoid the shredded chicken and suiza sauce. Go...

This place is a shame of a place first of all I will admit to some questinable red flags ( at least in my eyes ) cash only seemed weird but it happens I suppose not the 1st luckly we had enough cash (at the end that statement will make more sense) So we get there I order 3 taco dinner and my wife makes the grand choice of getting the Mojarra frita, (wich again i think this about any place, i woulnt order sea food at a taco spot , just saying ) any who Our orders come and its just a mountaib of food and to out surprise my wife gets a dish with 2 fish( wich the menu does not mention) and we where like wdf? But seeing the size if the rest of the dishes we figuered this was just another exajurated portion and we abviusly could not finish The biggest problem or surprise is whem we came to pay our bill was more than 100$$ 108$ to be exact wich i believed to be ubsurd now i know mojarros is known to be a "premium" dish in most places but that mean they where charging me about 70 for the one fish wich is still crazy Marisco places dont even charge this for a mojarra frita ! Also just the practice of just to add an extra fish to a dish and not mention it and expect you to pay for it and not tell you prior to having ordered it just straight up shady place. And other people there where complaining about there prices,as we where eating as well another patrion we can hear was asking how much everything was as he also though his bill was extremly high and several people not realizing its cash only going to get cash somewhere because they dont even have an atm just a bad sad dishonest bisness will never go back food was not even tasty maybe the rice was ok (in my opinion lol) but just avoid this place it survives on overundulgance and lacks much quality avoid you can do much better in many places that offer the same...
