Papa Chris' is located on Touhy, a little west of the Costco and Target. Papa Chris has a pretty decent sized parking lot, as they do share the plaza space with 3 other businesses, but every time I go, there's plenty of parking. There's also a few diagonal side street parking spots as well.
Papa Chris' is one of those classical fast food joints that offer all sorts of variety, such as your staple hot dog, burgers, shakes, chicken sandwiches, and pizza puffs. I like taking my kids there because of the variety and the price is great. Every once in a while, you'll find some print coupons in the local mailer. Their menus are hung overhead, and you just go to the front, where there is plexi-glass for the pandemic of 2021, and order. As of Feb 2021, their dining area is open, although they did tape-off several booths to practice social distancing.
The fam ordered several items:
Cheese burger - my son had the burger and he said it was pretty good. He mentioned that he thought the burger was too well-done, and he'd prefer his burgers cooked medium. But he said he would still give the burger a solid 4-stars. Seasoned curly fries - he loved the fries. Nicely seasoned, and most of the fries were indeed curly (we've been to places where their curly fries were more like half-crescent fries) Grilled chicken sandwich - I ordered this with tomato, lettuce, onion, and hold the mayo. The sandwich came in a round hamburger bun and it was good. The chicken wasn't overcooked and it was fairly seasoned well. I wish the chicken could have been bigger though. Chili - this was somewhat too salty for me. The chili was more of a paste, and it looked like they grinded the beans into it Soup of the day: Clam chowder - very tasty! I ordered this on a whim and my other son loved it. The order came with saltine crackers Chicken fingers - an order came with three. They were fairly decent sized. I would estimate maybe 2-3 oz of chicken in total. My son did chew on cartilage on each of the tenders... wasn't too much of a fan, but he still enjoyed it. Regular fries -- nothing too crazy and these guys. They were the crinkle kind and was good.
Overall, the people taking our order was nice, the food was pretty good, and the price was good. With the above items (including 2-extra burgers) the bill came out to around $43. Definitely check out Papa Chris's place if you're in the mood for some good ol'...
Read moreThis place is special in a way that would almost makes me want to keep it a well-guarded secret. You don't really get this experience anymore, it takes a confluence of passion and community that's hard to come by in any era, let alone the modern, distanced, impersonal world we occupy now.
This is the quintessential Chicago Mom n' Pop experience. Great food at ridiculously good prices served up with a smile and a friendly familiarity that makes you feel like you're right at home.
The decor matches the patrons: humble, comfortable, working-class Americana and unapologetically Chicagoan to the core. You can tell most of the customers here are patrons for life, and with good reason. You always feel like a person here, not an order. They aren't just trying to turn over your ticket, they want to make sure you're taken care of.
I can't tell you the last time I had perfect fries before this, like too-hot-to-eat, immaculate golden brown fries. I definitely can't recall ever getting them with a whole burger for under $7. I fed two hungry adults here for less than $20. It felt absurd, almost, like I wanted to pay more because it felt unfair to them that I'd pay twice that much at a lot of places.
Just a positively perfect experience every time and we always make it a point to stop here anytime we're...
Read moreSo today I went to Papa Chris place to give it a try and let me tell you I was blown away at the fantastic service and delicious meals they were serving. I could hear the lambs mowing in the back as they were slaughtered for fresh sandwiches the sour cream was so delicious that the cows must’ve been slaughtered in the back as well. They put a touch of mint in the sour cream too. The burger was at least 2 1/2 pounds, and at least 40 pounds parking wasn’t an issue I was able to pull in my whole 63 foot semi trailer in the parking lot and it fit perfectly between two Prius. They also provided valet parking I even saw Jeff Bezos come by and park his helicopter on the roof and they validated and flew it over to the leaning tower of Pisa next across the street the chocolate shake was made out of Ghirardelli chocolate, I saw the chef whipping the whip cream hand and they picked the cherry off the marsh cherry tree in the back overall very good experience definitely would be eating breakfast lunch and dinner here every day from now on they also invited me family Christmas party and gave me thousands of dollars worth of gifts....
