Very mixed feelings and likely will never come again.
The lady who greeted me is one of the kindest people I have ever met in a store! She treated me very warmly and gave me two teas (pomegranate and lemon) as well as let me try as many samples as I wanted of the Turkish delights to see which one I wanted to buy. I ended up buying a pound of them, and also some baklava. Can’t say they were the best I ever imagined (or that my boyfriend who I shared the sweets with liked them at all… which is then a waste of my time….). She also kindly let me borrow a charger and a pen while I was there today to do a study meeting. I accidentally forgot to return the pen before leaving. My apologies!!!
On the downside they don’t have a public bathroom and in the end when I needed to use a bathroom she said they didn’t have basic necessities like hand soap or towels in there. I asked how she could wash her hands and was a little shocked by her reply… she said that they just sometimes went without soap, used dish soap up front, or used a nearby bathroom. Why the hell is there no soap in the bathroom!?!?! Sounds like a health hazard to me and I’m only going to eat the sweets I bought because I paid for them and didn’t get sick from eating the ones she gave me. Moreover I just took a few and gave the rest as a gift to our apartment custodian…!
She said she always washes her hands before handling food and I believe her but that statement is worrisome enough to write about. I hope that this issue gets amended. Everything was perfect till then. Also she had a very bad headache today so maybe she’s in a state of confusion?!?
Overall experience just makes me like Turkish delights and baklava a lot less from now on, and also very unlikely would ever go to Turkey since not sure I will enjoy...
Read moreI found a gem! I have just discovered this store specializing in Middle Eastern delicacies on Harlem, next to the Forno Rosso pizza place. They stock a dazzling array of Turkish delight, chocolates, nuts, and coffee. Great people, and beautiful treats! Thank God I was too early for my pizza pick-up.
We bought several kinds of delicious Turkish delights, nuts, and a great blend of medium and dark coffee with cardamom. This is not your grandma’s Turkish delight, but a more modern and sexy version of it. The pomegranate cranberry was to die for, and there is a milk chocolatey tasting one with hazelnuts that I went gaga over. Plus another pomegranate pistachio coated with crunchy chocolate bubbles... Oh. My. God.
You can sample everything before buying, and everything is fresh and great quality.
Don’t hesitate to stop by, sample and buy some of these beautiful and tasty treats! And now I’m going back to trying several other kinds of delight. I don’t think...
Read moreI feel conflicted about this review. Pros: The place was fun to visit with a cute setup, they offered several samples, and the treats are unique for the area. Cons: the pricing and purchasing was difficult to understand and not posted clearly, it’s more expensive than expected ($32 for a small box, which was a between a 1-1.5 lb, of Turkish delight and $24.99/lb for chocolates). Worst of all, the pomegranate Turkish delight had a large rock in it… this of course makes the rest a lot less enjoyable. Trying to decide whether we would go back is a difficult decision. Hopefully the rock is a one-off and thankfully the person who got it did not break a tooth. But he said he definitely wouldn’t go back. Perhaps worth a shot with careful attention to price and...
