I had really high hopes for this restaurant after looking at the menu and pictures. However, the overall experience was not pleasant. I would have to unfortunately say at the price point and considering the food quality, this restaurant is NOT worth it. We had a large party for a birthday and having worked in the food industry in the past, I understand timing things can be difficult. However, what I saw was quite disastrous. To begin the appetizers were pretty okay. The hummus was a little hard, the calamari was a bit overcooked and chewy, but very well flavored, the elote was good but room temperature and the fries were adequate. As for the entrees, they were bad. The linguine carbonara was overall 2/5. the linguine itself was Al dente and the pancetta was tasty however the food came out room temperature and the sauce tasted exactly like a jar alfredo. I included steak with mine, it was overcooked, dry, room temperature and not seasoned. The chimichurri was appropriately flavored but also room temperature. The burgers across the table were also overcooked and room temperature. The Mayo that came out with the burgers had been expired for 10 months. With appetizers in the mid-teen dollar range and entrees between $20 and $50, I expected A LOT MORE. The service was adequate. When they were at the table they had a nice attitude and were kind, however as one member of my party said, they spent more time talking amongst themselves then waiting the table. We were regularly waiting 10 to 15 minutes to order new drinks. When ordering the drinks, especially beer, they kept getting mixed up. As an aside, they had a beer special, $3 domestic draft beers which is pretty solid. however, when I asked the bartender what was on the drink special she mentioned modelo, peroni, and Miller lite. I thought "well that's nice they added non domestic to the list" I ordered non domestic beers at the bar and was only charged $3 for each. When we were seated at the table, I reiterated that fact to a member of my party while our server was nearby and unfortunately wasn't corrected. 15 beers later for the table it cost us double the amount. That is an unfortunate incident to occur. I should have reiterated my question to the server at the time but assumed, erroneously, that everyone at the establishment was knowledgeable of their drink specials. One redeeming aspect is the ambiance. They have a nice rooftop patio. Hence the two stars. Maybe they can do better with smaller parties. But this experience is the worst I've had in a very long time. Overall, for the price point, sadly this restaurant is not worth it. We walked away spending nearly $600 for a disappointing dining experience.
The situation reminds me of a Hell's kitchen episode where the judges dictate a price point for the dishes made. For the linguine carbonara, it would have been $0. I would much rather make my own roux and white sauce.

Read moreMy boyfriend and I came in for brunch and the hostess who greeted us was so sweet. We shared a moment about our teens leaving us for college and our love for plants. The service was a little slow to begin with once we sat and ordered but the staff made sure to check in and it went smoothly after that. My boyfriend ordered three different entrees - the chilaquiles, the carrot cake French toast and the fish tacos - and I had the Monte Cristo. He also ordered the restaurant’s take on a whiskey sour (can’t remember the name of the cocktail). He said it was a little watery and not as flavorful as the average whiskey sour.
There was a party upstairs so the food took a little longer than normal but it came out timely considering. As a Bennigan’s girl (RIP), I expected the Monte Cristo to be sweet and savory. It was more of a grilled ham, turkey and cheese. It wasn’t dipped in egg batter and deep fried so it wasn’t sweet but it was full of meat and pretty good, just not what I expected. It also came on a huge plate with no sides or garnish like breakfast potatoes or hash browns so the presentation was kinda lackluster. I added strawberry jam to make it work.
We thought the carrot cake French toast to perhaps be made with carrot cake but it was a traditional French toast with sweetened, shredded carrots. It wasn’t what we expected but it wasn’t bad. It also was on a very large plate with no garnish so the presentation was also a little meh but not a dealbreaker. He asked for chicken on the chilaquiles and it wasn’t added (the server wasn’t sure if it could be added so no biggie) but he enjoyed the dish. The fish on the fish tacos were fish sticks - not what was expected but they were okay.
The meal wasn’t great but the service was really good. My coffee was refilled and when I noticed the decor, we asked the server was the owner a police officer. We were told owners were brother and their dad was a retired officer so it was a beautiful tribute. My boyfriend is an officer and his service was appreciated by the staff. All in all, a good experience but I wasn’t wowed by the food. We plan to come back for lunch or dinner to sit on the rooftop for drinks and try more food. I definitely want to try the lobster roll - my...
Read moreI wish I could write a glowing review for this establishment but my 1st experience was a terrible one. I fully aknowledge that there is a wide spread labor shortage in the hospitality industry. So the fact that we waited 1.25hrs for a burger order, although annoying, we didn't blame the staff. When we checked on on how much longer the wait might be for our food, we weren't given a time line so we decided to politely ask to cancel our kitchen order and asked for the check for our drinks. After doing so, the manager approached our table and began to belittled and 'scold' us for being 'impatient'. I tried to explain to her that we understood they were short staffed but she just kept interrupting me. I figured the 'gloves were off' at this point so I also tried to explain to her that we were also very uncomfortable waiting so long while they were not enforcing the IL mask mandate which basically says patrons indoors need to wear a mask unless actively eating or drinking. I don't think a single patron walking around the restaurant the night we were there wore a mask and the hostess (pic attached) wore her mask below her chin the entire time we were there. At this point the manager suggested that Tavern on the Point wasn't the place for us and that when we walked in and saw patrons without masks, that we should have taken our business elsewhere. We explained that my partner is autoimmune compromised and she just again suggested that Tavern on the Point wasn't the place for us then. The sad part is that we have been extremely careful this past year & half. We decided to go that night to celebrate a friend's bday, who was there. We decided to go and eat there to help support a local business that I know has been hurt by the pandemic. After we left, our friend, who's bday it was, was approached by the same manager and was told to deliver us a message, that we were not allowed back. With so many other establishments available in the area, we will be taking her advice in the future.....we will take our...
