I really want to leave a better overall star rating because the food was great, service was solid but there was a clear lack of communication and disregard for customer contracts with the party room. My friend and I planned a reunion of former colleagues and chose Pizzaboy because it has a party room and they were cool with just 20 ppl on a Thursday night. We booked their room and made plans in early August.
We get there and our party room is occupied... by another party. Kristina, who we made all the plans with, was not there. And the two other people we talked to were super defensive and blamed us saying we didn't pay for it, this other party was booked since August, etc. We showed them all confirmations and said no fee was ever noted, which we would have paid! Turns out, we had it booked and the other owner decised to push us out in favor of a party for his cousin! And clearly came up with a cover story of the fee not being paid as a way to cover it up. at least that was our impression. I could be wrong and it was an honest communication error. But it really didn't feel that way.
Obviously there was nothing we could do, so we were set up in the main dining and were assured we'd have the whole dining area once the two families having dinner left (small but plenty big for our purposes). Which we did...until the other party got too big and suddenly our tables were getting pulled to accommodate them! And their party spilled out of the party room. Their party goers even tried to take our food!
While Krisitna apologized profusely, worked her butt off to serve our party (really above and beyond), add an appetizer and dessert for free, offered half off our NEXT party, but this really impacted our gathering. It was very loud (the other party had a band, in a tiny space!) so we had to scream to talk to each other and we felt rushed and ultimately push out pretty early. The gentleman we spoke to at 6 said the other party didn't start till 7 so thats would be plenty of time... that's an hour and food wasn't being served till 6:30. We wanted to hang out and catch up for more than an hour!.
The food was really very good, authentic, tasty, everyone agreed! And Kristina should get 10 stars for her work ethic and trying to make it right, but as a restaurant you knew you had a party and someone disregarded that becasue your cousin wanted the space, again just my feelings, i could be wrong. If I am, then a better system for booking is needed.
If your catering, food was fantastic, having an normal dinner, I'd highly recommend. Having a party, might want just want...
Read moreI have only gotten the slices of pizza to go here, and they still only have the limited menu, so I will have to update my review if I go back again later. I have gone twice so far, for slices.
The cheese pizza slices are pretty good. Not totally great, and definitely not bad, but pretty good. The pizza menu looks good with many options for specialty pizzas, and of course the build-your-own so my fellow vegetarian diners will be happy. I would like to try the famous Detroit style pizza too.
The service was decent. The cashiers were very friendly and polite both times. The 1st time I went they were very busy, the 2nd time they were slower. The wait was only slightly longer on the busier visit.
They have only been open for a month or so, and I'm sure they are still figuring out best practices for labor, logistics, etc. Overall it's a decent place and I would go back, maybe in a few weeks, to try the other menu items when they have them.
UPDATE: I went back a third time. I got the cheese pizza slices again, and I decided to try the curly fries since they have the other menu items now. The pizza was hot and fresh, right out of the oven. It was really good. And the curly fries were amazing! They are nicely seasoned, and came in a large portion. They only took about 5 minutes to cook and I did a to-go order. I have updated my...
Read moreWow! My husband and I recently held our little three year old son's birthday party at Pizza Boy Chicago and were completely blown away. We'd heard great things about the food from friends and decided to hold our family party of approx. 30 people in the party room which is absolutely beautiful. Dynamic lighting, tasteful decor, etc. The food was fantastic (people were throwing elbows for the Detroit style pizza), the portions were generous and the service was next level. As a small business owner and former restaurant industry kid myself, I know how important it is to make your guests feel valued and cared for and the entire Pizza Boy team was amazing from start to finish. Cristina was friendly and helpful over the phone as we organized the day/ordered the food and our two servers (I believe their names were Reina and Torie) were SO attentive, polite and helpful. Our guests kept commenting about how great they were and what a fabulous experience we all had. It's also BYOB which is a great option to have. would highly recommend Pizza Boy for anyone looking for an all-around great experience with delicious food. Can't wait to come back in for dinner soon! Big thanks to the whole crew. Keep up the...
