Sounds like the place added the name "Swedish restaurant" as a trap; it was more like American-SwedISH style. The food and the quality of the ingredients were average, I could easily name 10 better places without checking a list.
Very disappointed not seeing Scandinavian snacks/appetizers on the menu; forget about the high fructose products they have; I expected to see more "natural" items (e.g. Lou Mitchell's orange jam). The Tre Kronor is one of the few places that I have visited that is extremely overrated. Having a meal in a restaurant should be a COMPLETE experience, based on the available offers/factors, thus, the food is only one part of it (e.g. we don't expect good seats in a food truck experience). We understand there is a line when the places decide not to take reservations, no problem (p.e. Au Cheval). Long waits for the food seems to be normal here, waiter did not apologize for the delays, getting refill of coffee felt like waiting for an eclipse, nor the service was attentive at all (no hygge, I guess).
Waiting a lot for your food to be served could be understandable since places get busy, or it is sort of acceptable due to the OTHER factors of the experience (e.g. Terrace 16). The reason why some restaurants have available tables, but they don't take more patrons, could be because there is no enough staff or the kitchen is "smaller", compared to the seating count. This way, customers are not waiting forever and get hangry; here doesn't matter.
Additionally, keeping the menu simple helps, Kronor's menu is relatively small & simple, but still it was a long wait.
Funny they offer you to visit the Swedish Shop, that is across the street, so you wait for your turn, but The restaurant itself doesn't offer foodstuff from the shop (at least I did not see it). It should be nice to see something in the menu from the shop or allowing you to buy something and consume it in the place (sort of corkage), or just offer a product on the table with a price tag.
The seats/tables/space of the restaurant are so uncomfortable (ok, IKEA-ish got it!). In my experience, sporadically, they were offering a place to hang your coat, (I better think that way), I wasn't that lucky, but the handwriting menu was cool, even if it wasn't...
Read moreI have been to Tre a fair number of times now, so this review might be a little dense.
This great meeting place for an outing with friends as it is across the street from the Foster and spalding bus lines. I have never had an issue with being ignored by servers/hosts, long wait times for seating or food. The food is good, and while the set menu is smaller, they always have 5 or 6 specials that are rotating. The servings are pretty large [esp the quiche and side sasuages]. Reservations are available, but I have never seen a wait at this restaurant.
Even though they are clearly understaffed and management needs to treat their staff better, all the servers, hosts, and cooks I have had here are absolutely wonderful. I have never had issues with swapping food items out due to dietary / allergy restrictions or felt like my table was glossed over and forgotten about, even on the busy days or the outside seating area. The last server I had even comped a pastry for my friend as we were out for her birthday.
I believe their is no alcohol allowed, or they at least are BOB. I primarily go here for brunch and have never seen anyone drinking or have been offered mimosas/usual drinks served during those hours.
The outdoor seating/garden section is expansive. You are not crowded to one set area like in some places. It is located in the back of the restaurant and is all fenced in so you don't have to worry about seeing/interacting with people walking by on the street or the noise pollution. There are plenty of places to hide behind trees/statuary so you can have an experience that is more intimate if that is...
Read moreOne of my mine and my husbands favorite places, we’ve been coming here for years. The last time we ventured in, for the first time in a VERY long time as we have a 13 month old and it’s not easy to get out this way with her. Anyways, we were very excited to bring her. We were sat immediately and our server came a few minutes later. She tried to convince my husband to get something he didn’t want which was a bit odd but whatever. We placed our orders and waited. And waited. We noted 5 other tables came after us and started getting their food. Also that our server was nowhere to be found. Our daughter was clearly getting squirrelly and hungry. We tracked down someone else and asked what was going on. They looked like they couldn’t care less and disappeared. Finally our server appeared 35 minutes later and said she had been outside and FORGOT to put in our order. My daughter was crying at this point. I was livid but didn’t say anything. My husband thanked her and we eventually got our food. My daughter was now overtired and alter for her nap. No one else came by to check in or cares that our server was just gone or even seemed to notice we were sitting there just waiting. The whole thing felt extremely disrespectful and disheartening, especially as we really love this place. My families heritage is Scandinavian so we love the environment. My suggestion would be to do some training in...
