I'd read about Boone's Deli online and had wanted to visit, but the chance never happened...until it did. :)
On a recent Sunday afternoon we paid Boone's Deli a visit. The local eatery on the other side of Taylorsville Road the weekend before was a huge let down, but we'd heard nothing but good things about Boone's.
The menu board isn't a board but actually more like a scroll, with all the menu items written on the 3 rolls of brown (for lack of a better word) packing paper on the wall. HIGH marks for creativity! (Hopefully the menu items don't change TOO often. It would be a headache to write all that stuff down regularly!)
I opted for a spicy roast beef sandwich (exactly what I don't remember. I've slept since then). You can also get chips or one of a few types of home made salads (think macaroni salad, potato salad, etc) or cole slaw. I'm a HUGE fan of cole slaw, and in the case it looked delicious and peppery (like me).
While they were making our sandwiches we chatted with the owners a bit and they seem like really nice, down-to-earth people. The told us how some of the menu options got their names and a little history of the business. It's really nice to to be able to chat with the owners.
It wasn't long before our food was ready. My wife had, basically, a Rueben minus the sauerkraut (I hate that stuff) and a bag of chips. We both got a bottle of water. Our total was about $38.
I've seen a number of reviewers comment on the cost of their meals. We had no complaints at all. They're serving Boar's Head meats, which a higher class/higher quality than most restaurants go near. You're also paying for locally, home made foods. I'm willing to bet that not a single food item came ready-made out of a jug or a box that came from Gordon's food. This is genuine food made with care and pride by the owners themselves.
There's a small seating are behind the counter area and a much larger seating area outside, but the weather wasn't suited for such chicanery.
We REALLY enjoyed our first visit to Boone's Deli. I think they've got a great product and I hope they stay around...
Read moreI have driven by this place many times and never realized it was even here. Man, have I been missing out!! When I first walked in what I noticed immediately was how clean and tidy the business is. It's not a large location. There's no inside seating available which is common with delis. They do share some outdoor deck space with picnic tables with the 3rd Turn Brewing company right next door, but you will be eating outside. I ordered the turkey club which came with generous portions of meat, cheese, etc. the choice of bread is wheat or white. I chose wheat. I was not disappointed at all. In fact, I was pleasantly surprised by how good it really was. High quality meat really does make a difference. I also ordered a cup of chilli and a cup of cole and slaw both of which were delicious. The pricing was fair for the generous food portions that received. Delis are rare anymore and so this is a great addition to the local food scene. I highly recommend coming and trying it out. I know that I am adding Boone's Deli to my...
Read moreI appreciate anything homemade or unique and this was both in addition to being excellently put together and delicious. I had the pimento cheese sandwich which I was delighted to find out it was a family recipe so there's also depth to its craft. It is light and almost fluffy which is such a wonderful differentiation from typical store pimento being compact and dense with a tensed almost tart aftertaste. This was much less abrassive in texture and flavor, alternatively being soft and inviting with its aftertaste. An absolute upgrade and improvement comparatively to store brand experiences. You really can't beat a...
