I had the small pho with rice noodles and beef as well as the pork and chive dumplings. The pho was not typical and had notes of lemongrass in it. This should not suggest that I was in any way disappointed, as the quality of that dish was very high. The dumplings were typical in the general recipe that they followed, but I believe wholeheartedly they were hand made immediately prior to being served. A rare thing indeed, which was both welcome and a sign of high quality. Service was diligent, quick, absolutely helpful, and explained things well. A little old lady explain to us how very spicy food helps keep the heart open, a LA traditional Chinese or Asian medicine wisdom.
They had their homemade chili oil for sale which I took home and enjoyed thoroughly that night. The restaurant was very clean and well laid out. I will make the comment that the menu was quite Limited. However in general this equates to very high quality food. Do one thing and do it very well. Overall I was very excited to eat at this restaurant and I believe I have found a new favorite pho restaurant close to work. These people will certainly get repeat business from me. To be completely honest I came to this restaurant because the the other two places I normally go to in the area were closed this day. I could not be happier that they were because I was forced to take a chance on this place. I only wish it...
Read moreWent here on a Saturday. Its located in a Vietnamese shopping center near the Walmart of SH 249. We were here at 100 pm and the only ones inside.
I had the large bun bo hue (12.5) with extra serving of pork hock and their green drink. Total cost was about $24. Shocked but didnt care, was hungry.
Broth was very good and savory. Lots of lemongrass flavour to balance out the richness. Its was also very spicy, just as I wanted. I could drown myself in that broth all day. I had the "fat egg noodles"- they were the dried kind. They were cooked fine, but they were previous dried and thus lack bite. The ham or processed loaf was cut this and had a lot peppercorns. Nice. Only had one blood cube ok with me. Beef shank slices were very tasty and had good chew. Pork hock was well cooked, might need a bit more cooking, but I was able to put it down.
The extra serving of pork hock comes separately with a more saltier broth. Thats one thing to point out.
Vegtable topping served on the side was very fresh.
The green drink was good. Easily slurpable.
Would recommend this place if you are in the area. I would say Two Bowls may have the better bun bo hue, but that is more pricier than this. I just wonder how...
Read moreEveryone makes BBH differently and has different broth preferences. So I will say that the broth is sweet +++, not a strong kick of lemongrass--- and not spicy ---. You MUST add a big spoonful of the side seasoned lemongrass chili oil to enhance the broth and make a "hot Jane" or else the broth is "plain Jane". The chili seasoned lemongrass oil is awesome. I'm Vietnamese Hue. Where I came from, they describe the broth as "mặn mè" and "thấm tháp" which I feel the BBH here has room to improve. The BBH here is good and pleasant for the general taste buds. The thigh sliced meat is not cooked to fall apart tender and therefore wasn't soaked in BBH spices. The "chả" is not the "Chả lụa Huế". English music is played. Non Vietnamese staff in the both front and back. No Vietnamese staff here. They only serve BBH, Chinese dumplings, drink options (has Vietnamese coffee for $5.95). So if you are going with someone who doesn't like BBH and you think they offer other options, keep in mind they have a straight forward...
