Had to go to a home furniture warehouse up North. While google mapping to look for a place to lunch, chanced upon this small quietly restaurant Jasmin's Indian cuisine. Truly enjoyed our visit. And hence this post 🙂 . Although it's famous for its goat curry and Yakhni pulaus and biriyanis, we tried a timid bhindi masalaa and paneer butter masala with their signature laccha (flakey) paratha. We were definitely hungry and we loved the food. . You might ask, how do I know so much about them if I had been there for the first time. That's because of Navaid (aka Zeeshan Mahmood), an erstwhile chef and now the proud owner of this small joint, which he runs alongside his wife Guria and their grown-up daughter. He talks, suggests, cooks and makes you comfortable with his unorthodox hospitality and an uncannily spontaneous warmth. . They prepare everything fresh, while the customers talk and listen to music. Their food at once reminds one of the home-cooked meal of the mothers kitchen we had long left and watching the husband and wife team cook and serve (and socialize), the sense of nostalgia just become more and more pronounced. . They cater and can put up live food stalls at events too. I vow to order a half plate of Yahkni pulao ( as per Navaid it's the best) the next time we are having a serious party, for sure. . A native of Karachi Pakistan, with relatives in Bangalore, India, Navaid is trying to create an uncharacteristic warmth, with food and unadulterated, rustic bonhomie in the Bayou City that is definitely worth a try. . Try whatever cuisine you like to, but definitely try it with their laccha paratha. Navaid repeatedly told us that his paratha is really good and after having tested it, I totally second him. Bon appetit, Bon nostalgique (if that's even a...

Still superb cooking! The cook was different this visit but the results were still as spectacular as the cook in my original review. I could eat this biryani everyday! They actually had lamb available this time and it was very soft and tender and beautifully cooked. The garlic naan was flavorful and soft. Amazing.
Original review:
I have been wanting to check out Jasmins Indian restaurant for quite awhile, and on my birthday I found the perfect opportunity for a late lunch after work, courtesy of my mom. I was very satisfied! The beef kebabs were moist and tender with an appreciable amount of char on the outside, just how I like it. The most amazing part of the beef kebab was that it was not loaded with salt. I fact I couldn’t taste any salt, only freshly prepared beef and spices and it was amazing.
We had both a beef biryani plate and a veg biryani. Both were very good - the portions were big enough for the biryani plates that I will be well taken care of later for dinner and for lunch tomorrow! I had a mango lassi (yogurt based blended mango drink) and it was perfect, worth returning for just for that drink.
The owner Johnson was happy to explain the menu items to us and was very receptive to feedback. Highly recommend! I’m lucky enough to live right behind the restaurant. If you’re in the area come...
Read moreI think I've only left a review this low one other time, but I am not happy. Firstly, the man that was phoning his order when we got there was completely done eating and his table cleared before we got our food, over half an hour after we ordered. While I considered getting tea, I decided on water and said so. We were instead brought two coffees. I didn't get my water until I specifically asked for it again when he brought water to the other man in the restaurant. They were out of the lamb. The mango in the Shrimp Mango Curry was flavorless, unripe, and still had skin. I ordered the Beef Kaido which was emblazoned with HOT!, so I special ordered a side of raita to cool it off. I had to ask for it again when the food arrived. The rice was dreadful, bland with a sprinkling of peas and carrots. The Kaido was not at all spicy. The curry, not advertised as spicy, was spicier than the Kaido. When we were asked how it was, I mentioned I thought my order was messed up because it wasn't spicy. (I did eat everything because I was starving and I don't waste food) We were basically told, they didn't make it spicy because they didn't think we could handle it. We felt like they profiled as white people who couldn't handle spice. That was truly upsetting. We are not...
