We visited Mango Tree for the first time Friday night. We have been trying to find a good Thai food restaurant in the Willowbrook area. We used to go to Nit Noi, but wanted something better.
My niece recommended Mango Tree. When we arrived, they had a nice crowd going - a good sign. There was a special on the fried spring rolls appetizer displayed with a picture. Five of them for $4. Can't go wrong there, right? Well they were tiny, about two inches long tiny. We were surprised, because the picture of the appetizer looked much bigger. No problem, they were tasty I have to admit.
We ordered or standard dishes, Pad Thai, Tiger Cry, and a couple of other noodle dishes. They were all very good. I give them an A+ for taste as well as for service.
I don't know how the dish out the rice, though. Since we were all sharing, no one got their own plate of rice, so they brought out two small dishes of white rice. There were 5 of us, so it wasn't nearly enough. When we asked for more, they brought us two additional dishes of rice, but charged us $1 for each.
For our group of 5, they added in the gratuity automatically. From our experience, groups of 8 or more have the gratuity added in, so I wasn't expecting it to be there. I almost added it again, before I noticed that it was already there.
So, in short, the food was great, and the portions good (lots of shrimp on the shrimp dishes) with the exception of the tiny spring rolls, and the meal was reasonably priced.
Just be aware of your bill so you don't over pay the gratuity, and that more rice is extra.
Nice place, nice waitress. We'll go...
Read moreI am Brazilian, and many Americans when living in Brazil say we treat food as a sentiment! There are certain food that for me is the same as my mom’s lap affection, others make me cry because it reminds me of my grandma who passed away, I’ve cried in the middle of a fancy restaurant because the food reminded me of my grandma smell! All that to say that mango tree food for me is a comfort, it’s my favorite restaurant. My husband lost his job and we’ve been struggling with money for a while, someone in the church blessed us with a gift card and I found out there was a bit left on it, so I went to mango tree to feel a little better and order a lunch dish to go, before paying I told her I didn’t have money for tip because we were struggling and that was a gift from someone, I asked for prayers for that but then my gift card didn’t work and the owner there know me for years, I asked her to try a few times and it didn’t work, then I told her I’d pay with another account of mine and she let me have it for free! I almost cried, not only they serve me comfort and kindness but they are also generous beyond understanding and I wasn’t expecting for that. Food is FRESH, made with love! I have witnessed them eating the same food they serve to clients several times, that’s a great sign, when people in a restaurant eat what they serve you know they trust what they are making for people, I want to honor them for so many years making me feel loved with their food but more than that, for praying for my family household and be generous with those who struggle! I simply LOVE MANGO...
Read moreUsed to really enjoy here... now they have many menu items discontinued. :( They no longer serve crab rangoon! They are noy serving sweet rice with Mango. They could not even add on extra meat to a vermicelli with pork dish. What the heck? They do not even serve the variety of hot teas listed on their menu. So many sad faces while we ordered.
They did include a cup of chicken broth soup and a small salad and fried egg roll with our lunch entrees. And their hot tea cups are adorable.
Their summer rolls are in need of tighter rolling, mine completely fell apart. The pork was overcooked, but the dish was still good, just akward.
Also caution is required with regards to spice levels. My pad thai at mild, aka a 1 of 10, was destinctly spicey. And the menu states clearly that if you find your dish too spicey, you are responsible for it either way. So at least I tried to warn you.
Our server was charming, and polite, and also appologetic over the items we could not order. .
And let me state again that we used to enjoy this place. Though they are not close enough to our house to be a frequent flier, I doubt we will return soon, which makes me sad. If they survive another year we may try...
