I hate to say it, but I can’t support the management change and the move from Voodoo to Little Magic.
TLDR: As someone with gluten sensitivities, I think the food is now soulless, bland, overpriced, and not worth recommending.
I’ll try not to be too verbose. I became intolerant to gluten about 8 months ago, but I was a regular customer at Voodoo for at least 2 years, simply because they had delicious food. My friends without diet restrictions loved it too. It especially was a treat for my mom who has celiac, and has far more sensitivity than I do.
I was so willing and open for the management chance, and hoping for the best. I went in with an open mind and was just simply underwhelmed. Before, people came to Little Magic for the bar, and went to Voodoo for the chicken, now (like another review said) we just have gluten free bar food to eat while you’re out.
I would say it’s better than nothing, except that the prices increased by about 20% across the board, and for…what reason?? It’s not like the portions are any different.
I’m willing to give them another shot and try more menu items once they get their feet fully on the ground, but as it stands I can’t recommend the kitchen at Little Magic.
The service was good, but somehow the atmosphere feels… corporate? millennial cheugy in a bad way. “live, laugh, love” if you will. I don’t know the ethnicity of the former ownership, but the food tastes like white people food, and the atmosphere reflects that.
I went to Voodoo because it was better than the fried chicken I could make at home, now I don’t think I have a reason to go.
The icing on the cake is Little Magic has been able to STEAL the reviews from Voodoo since it’s the same location. Riding off of their success is not cool, they might not have had a choice w Google but either way, any review before this past month is NOT ACCURATE.
I hope Voodoo reopens in a new location...
Read moreI was once a massive fan of voodoo chicken, the food was great, the service was great and the staff was friendly. Since the transition to little magic I have been nothing but profoundly disappointed both times I have gone. Starting with the staff: when I walked in most recently I approached the counter and the staff were talking about how they wanted to quit. Then the girl comes to take my order with a blank depressing look on her face. While waiting for the food, I was discussing with my partner how the place felt like an abandoned amusement park that somehow still had music playing. After my food arrived she said simply here’s your food and walked away, that’s fine I suppose, but shortly after when I went to ask for ranch dressing she scowled and said “I already gave you some, but fine here”. Okay?? I’m your customer I just want some ranch why is that such a problem. But moving on… the food was also a foul shadow of what was once a great chicken tender. The flavor was bland and empty even the ranch couldn’t save it. Not to mention my onion rings crumbled like my dreams of a good meal. To top it all off, the sassy server was walking around vaping and snap chatting. Overall I’m now siting at home depressed, unsatisfied and yearning for voodoo chicken to return and rid us of this wretched imposter. I once got better service at a Wendy’s in Starkville Mississippi where the lady taking my order was literally drinking on the job. It’s a shame that this place kept the good reviews of voodoo chicken it is far below...
Read moreMy fiancé & I went for lunch. I was craving collard greens & mine are delicious, but they take forever to make. I ordered the blackened chicken salad, a side of greens, & a side of Mac & cheese. My salad was phenomenal! All of the greens & veggies were so fresh & crunchy. The chicken was so juicy! The ONLY thing that I could even remotely say was not on point about the salad was that the avocado began to oxidize a little bit, but I wasn't complaining! Now on to the Mac & cheese! It was so creamy, cheesy, & gooey. The noodles were cooked perfectly with the right amount of bite to them. The absolute best thing I had was the collard greens. I have only 1 thing to say about them. Whoever made them put their whole foot in that pot. If you don't know what that means, it means they SLAAAAAAAAP!!!!!
My fiancé ordered the chicken & waffle sandwich with a side of slaw. This looked stunning. It was a HUGE waffle topped with 2 gigantic, perfectly seasoned, & fried tenders (I honestly thought they were small breasts instead of tenders). Yet again, the chicken was very juicy & flavorful. The ONLY 2 things that I could say in a "negative" light is the fact that it only came with 1 container of maple syrup (I asked for a 2nd & it was gladly given to me), & I wasn't a fan of the slaw & that's only because I don't like Celery seeds.
I would give this a 4.9 out of 5. If you haven't eaten here, YOU ARE...
