There are many many years and memories with Sushi Ya. I can’t believe I haven’t posted a Google review! I’ve been coming to this wonderful establishment since I was a teenager and Sushi Ya has always been one of my favorite nostalgic spots. I always appreciated the hard work of the master chefs who create their artistic work in their food. And when I say artistic I mean they go all in! Order one of their sushi specialties and you will see for yourself as the chef’s delicately placed all their ingredients for their masterpieces. Sadly I was a bit disappointed at one of their customized orders for a very special baby shower that was paid by her beautiful sister…however after she ordered this platter I couldn’t be mad at them due to the amount of fish. This time was filled with their other special ingredients other than rice. Thank you to the wonderful and memorable staff of Sushi Ya. 🤓👍🍣🍱 To this day you still create more memories even on wheels 🛞 thank you Roula and Ivan.

12/7/21 update This used to be my favorite spot, we took a break due to COVID and the incident that happened. We decided to give them a go again. They stopped the AYCE and now have a regular menu with a couple specials. It was like 2 chef specials and a regular roll for 25$ +3$ for an appitizer addon. We ended up being there for over an hour because they have no workers, the place was pretty empty as well maybe 6 tables. The rolls definitely arent as good as they used to be, I really am sad to leave this review, because this place used to be an oasis for sushi lovers. Between COVID and incident that took place, I don't think they will ever recover. Good luck, we wont be back unless you have a miracle happen. Love this place! Service is mediocre, but the sushi is always fresh and tasty. For dinner I plan for roughly 2 hours but I ussually go with 4+ people. Selection is huge compared to any other AYCE place.

I ordered Crazy salmon, spicy tuna hand roll and two ikura ( salmon eggs). It was phenomenal! The presentation is beautiful and taste of it even better. Hostess was very sweet and helpful. The owner was very nice and funny. Everyone there was very busy because they are understaffed. However, this did not change the fact that food came as ordered and I did not wait long. Some people have to understand that for the good quality food you have to wait otherwise go to McDonald’s😉. I am definitely going to be back!

Very pleased with the decor. I frequent this plaza but had never once thought to try this place. But since introducing my daughter to chicken Tempura from another sushi restaurant in Romeoville she had be craving it. This location popped up and had pretty good reviews. The review that stood out the most was one that mentioned "fresh food". And we selected to stop here before her practice. First, the seaweed salad was served and appeared to be a full bowl of it was actually a small of amount of seaweed on a mound of julienned cucumber. Not a big deal although I am accustomed to only seaweed and much more than I was given. I was really looking forward to the chicken tempura with the added cream cheese (which was $1 more) and my California Rolls. My daughter ordered hers the usual way it was made (without cream cheese). The server brings us the food. And I start off trying the California rolls. And then eat one of the Chicken Tempura rolls but no taste of cream cheese. So I start to examine the others to see if there was any at all. Nope, my daughter had the ones with cream cheese and didn't want to swap because she said I had touched them. It was no big deal to me because they only had a sliver of cream cheese anyway, like it one strip squeezed from a condiment bottle. Nothing I would taste if I had them anyway. Nothing like the noticeable cube size at other sushi restaurants. I didn't mention that part. Why bother? So I let the waiter know and why it was too late to swap with my daughter, she simply said "sorry about that". And when the check came she still billed me for the added cream cheese. I was very displeased with that service. And to top it off neither of us cared for our food in general. It was basic sushi. I would have even been apt to tip a larger amount if there was enough cream cheese added to justify the upcharge even with the mix up. But in my opinion, no one really got cream cheese and she couldn't take it off because she was too careless with our plates to ensure we each received what we ordered. The rolls weren't as good as these reviewers suggest. Mediocre at best. You all should try some other sushi restaurants outside of Joliet. What I can say the prices are pretty reasonable. Just wish they flavored their food better, Especially the eel sauce. And didn't skimp on seaweed and cream cheese. My tip percentage is according to the quality of service. I am in customer service and a business owner as well. And when I receive a complaint I always do my best to make things right and almost always the extra mile to show the customer that they are valued. A mere, I'm sorry about when something is fixable is unacceptable. It could mean the difference between a raving customer who gives repeat business who sends family and friends and a customer that never returns let alone recommend my business. Giving 5 star service to everyone, no matter what they look like is of the utmost importance to me. Just wish others would...

I will start this review by saying the server himself (tall guy with tattoos) was an incredibly kind and nice guy. He is the ONLY good thing I have to say about this place.

Taking it back to the beginning of our stay, we informed the server of a gluten allergy that I have. He immediately got the gluten free soy sauce for the table before taking our order. When asked what options on the menu were gluten free or could be made gluten free, he was honest and said “I personally do not know, but my manager would so I will ask her”. After asking the manager if the spicy salmon plate was gluten free who gave him the “ok”, he unknowingly served the allergen to me. From here, everything crumbled.

Manager argued with our party while I was ill in the restroom. Although the rest of the party did not get to enjoy the All-You-Can-Eat food, the manager still made them pay the price tag despite nobody being able to finish their plates due to my consumption of this allergy. The server was incredibly apologetic while the manager was rude, unhelpful and argumentative.

The kicker? The manager clearly does NOT know what gluten really is, and tried to blame the server. The server was upfront and honest about not knowing, but trusted his managers word because...she’s supposed to know, right? The server went through every effort to hold his end up but was failed by his management.

10/10 would recommend that the owner/manager/staff at this place brush up on their knowledge for allergens. Yes, we knew this place didn’t have a certified gluten free kitchen, but took the precautions that WE could to prevent a reaction and enjoy the sushi we heard so much about. However, the precaution chain broke with the lack of knowledge from the staff resulting in a severe allergic reaction. I encourage the manager to reconsider more training for herself and her staff when it comes to allergens to ensure this doesn’t happen to...

I hate to rate this place with only 3 stars, but I just have to. The sushi is fantastic, some of the best in Joliet. Their scallops are incredible, and I recommend trying their Las Vegas roll. Their prices are all right, we try to catch the All You Can Eat Lunch, but the menu for that isn't as large as the Dinner, which is $5 more. The sushi can sometimes take quite a while to come out, but that is understandable when it's busy & it's definitely worth the wait. The part where this place kind of sucks is the SERVICE. Their is one "waiter" (& I use that term loosely) who has blonde hair and a horrible attitude, is the only reason we stopped coming here as much. He is snotty, rude & clearly has some kind of temper problems. We always groan when we are seated & he is the one to "help" us. He slams our drinks down on the table, so much so that we had to ask him to stop being so aggressive. We once had an incredibly long wait, and after seeing several tables who arrived after us get served before us, we simply asked what was going on. He makes up some excuse and then magically our food appeared. I also ordered two more rolls which never even arrived & he blamed it on the sushi chefs when it was clearly his fault for not putting the order in. He is a total ass. There is one server, however, who is fantastic. She is a tall, slender blonde woman who is polite & friendly. I truly have no idea how that guy gets tips or keeps his job when all of the other servers are so much better than him. Sounds kind of harsh, but it is true. We are heading there for lunch in a few days & if he is assigned to us, I'm asking to...
