A few Sundays ago our family ate at the White Fence Farm. We waited about 15-20 minutes and got seated in an alcove in one of the big dinning rooms. It was several minutes before our waitress came and she informed us that she would be with us in a few minutes. It appeared that there were only a few waitresses and they were very very busy. My husband ordered a salad with 1,000 Island since it was homemade per the menu. The waitress delivered the salad with dressing on the side and it was red not the pink color that 1,000 island is. She informed him that it was indeed 1,000 island, but she would double check. She came back with a bottle of the salad dressing with a label we never heard of. My husband informed her we would like to talk to the manager. Laura Hastert, the owner came out and my husband told here it was not homemade per the menu. She informed him they use to make it, but very few people wanted it. So no homemade1,000 island dressing. My husband told her it was false advertising because it said on the menu 1,000 island dressing was homemade. She informed him that she was not going to make a small batch nor was she changing the menu regarding this dressing because they have too many menus with homemade 1,000 Island dressings on them. She was rude. The waitress prior to having the owner come and see us put other homemade salad dressings for my husband to try, but he wanted the homemade 1,000 island salad dressing. ( That is why he ordered the salad.) The food is good and Milo, our waitress was great on the other hand the owner was curt. It seems they are really cutting costs to stay a float, but saying you having homemade dressing on the menu and it is not should be scratch out on the menu and the mashed potatoes are also instant. The bathrooms are very clean. Just...
ย ย ย Read moreI drove a long way all the way from Woodridge, IL to come to pick up my order from this place in Joliet, IL. Only to pick up my food and get it all the way back home to find my fried chicken pieces tasted like they were just dipped in batter doused with tons of salt/sodium. I mean the chicken was so very salty, that they were almost deemed inedible! I just know that my blood pressure went up so high just from eating that garbage. Yes, but I did eat it, only because I was absolutely starving!!!! Don't get me started on the sides which I'd ordered.
I had a small sized COLE SLAW, which had about 4 cups OF JUST PURE VINEGAR POURED INSIDE OF THE BOWL WHICH IT WAS PREPARD IN. THE COLE SLAW WAS SO NASTY AND SOUR WITH VINEGAR, IT WAS RIDICULOUS!
Now, the so called MACORONI & CHEESE, was only mac and cheese from the box and was filled WIT WATER! Yes, mac and cheese WAS COMPLETLY WATERED DOWN, with hardly any cheese flavor to it at all. The chef doesn't or the chef or cook have the knowledge to bake some shredded cheese onto to top of the dish to hide the fact that it was prepared out the processed food box?
ABSOLUTELY EVERY ITEM ORDERED, THE FRIED CHICKEN, THE COLE SLAW AND THE FAKE MACORONI AN CHEESE WAS ALL HORRIBLE! The only item I had which was tasty and alright, were the Corn fritters.
So, its a darned shame that I drove all the way across 2 expressways and wasted $20.00 for only the 12corn fritters I ate!
NEVER AGAIN WITH...
ย ย ย Read moreTo be honest, I go there because it was a special place we went with my family when I was a child. The food still tastes the same, which is good, but I think they are using pygmy chickens now and the prices have gone up over the years so I now spend about 60 dollars for take out there. As a matter of fact, when I was getting into my car, a couple drove up and asked me how the prices were. I told them and away they went.
The last time my wife and I were at the restaurant on Joliet Road, she had the steak which was excellent, and I had the fish which was very good as well. The restaurant is loaded with antiques and fun to look at if you enjoy that kind of thing, which I do.
I would give them more stars if the chicken was larger, or a better value but they do give you...
