Walking in to Lalo's you are greeted by a single dining room filled with tables, chairs, and booths, with colorful pictures of different menu items hung from a ceiling beam that terminates at a wall menu to your right. The register is below that and tucked away in the corner, staffed by some lovely folks who are happy to assist if you need anything.
I got a pork tamale platter, there's a cheese dip option but instead I used the complimentary liquid red and verde salsas for our table, as well as a carnitas taco which was delicious. They do both flour and corn tortillas for tacos so specify if you know what kind you want. I enjoyed both meals and it was all at a great price, the birthday meal for my friend was just over $30 for us both, this includes drinks and tip.
I recommend placing your order at the register first, the specials are on a smaller menu in between it and the bigger menu.
Definitely coming back to this nice little taqueria. I didn't even get a photo of my food I instinctively started eating when it...
Read moreMy wife and I are avid Mexican food fans. We travel around city to city trying out different Mexican cuisine. We stopped in for lunch today at Lalos after reading a new article on Facebook which had Mexican restaurants in the Joplin area ranked by popularity and yelp reviews. The building was small and clean. The staff was pleasant. The major area of concern was with the food. It was awful. I had a double meat burrito.(steak and chicken) covered in white sauce. My wife had 6 tacos and rice with steak and chicken. The meat was very dry and tasted old. The burrito was very bland and did not taste authentic at all. This was closer to Texmex than actual Mexican food in my opinion. Yelp got it completely wrong these guys aren't even top 10 in the Joplin area. Last but not least the total for my Entrées was $38. Complete waste of money and time. We will not be going back. Anyone wanting good Mexican food needs to eat at Lalos in Wichita, Ks. if you want real authentic food. Next best thing is Panchos in...
Read moreThis is one of me and my fiancée's favorite restaurants in all of Missouri, dare I say all of the US. Everyone there is friendly and the food is always spot on. If you're sick of Taco Bell and other shitty fast food Mexican, do yourself a favor and try Lalo's. It's authentic, the portions are perfect (and I'm a big eater), they have a pretty sizable menu with lots of choices, and it's way healthier than the garbage you put in your stomach on a day to day basis. We try to come here as often as possible. The location might be easy to miss if you aren't looking for it, but it's the little family owned businesses that always take the crown when it comes to quality. So stop reading my review and haul your ass over there, because they've got a little bit of everything...
