So, here's the thing - I genuinely enjoy Checkers (for the most part). I've found that their food is pretty good and hits exactly the spot when I'm in the mood.
This location IS inconveniently designed and I often find it isn't worth it to go through the drive-through - but they do delivery and it mostly goes well!
Sometimes they get things a little wrong when I order here - I think I got the wrong size of fries before, but it isn't a big deal. I like to tell myself I'm fairly patient, and they're usually pretty slammed for such a small location, so I feel like it's fairly understandable.
(I will include the specific situation that inspired me to do a rating below, but I will include a tidbit at the end for those who want a more general review.)
I had a friend come to visit from out-of-state earlier this week. We decided to order Checkers and have it delivered since his flight had been delayed-- the day was already getting long. You know how it is.
They hadn't included a couple of items from our order.
No big deal - I called up the Checkers customer service line, expecting to be like "hey, if you can just get us the items we didn't get, that would be cool!" I think if they'd said they could, but we had to pick them up instead of re-delivering, I would have been disappointed but done so. It would have been later by the time they could put it through, I would have chalked it up to bad luck, yadda yadda.
They said "nope, can't do that. We CAN offer you a $10 gift card for your next visit, though." I explained that that was less than the cost of the items that were missing, that I really didn't want to be an inconvenience, I was just trying to feed the group of people I had over... I'm sure you can imagine the whole thing. I was politely but firmly rebuffed and told that I could either accept the $10 coupon OR they could put in a ticket with the manager who would reach out within three days. Mind you, they also were not going to refund me for the things I didn't receive. (It was also my impression I was supposed to be grateful since $10 was the max they were going to offer.)
So I said- fine, if those are my (only) options, please forward this to management. I figured I'd wait the three days and hear back eventually. I did not.
It's a shame because I genuinely enjoy their fries greatly- I've been getting them more and more for myself and our household, getting friends and coworkers to try them, and this has really soured my opinion on them. I don't know what I expect - I don't think they'll actually make it right (and if they do respond, they will probably just insist that I reach back out to them... how much more work am I expected to do to make things right?), and it seems like this is a trend with other reviews at the moment.
Generally speaking, though, if that isn't a deterrant for you: their food will hit the spot, and I'd previously have whole-heartedly recommended their fries. Their "location specific" menu includes a mushroom swiss burger that's decent- I think I prefer it from other fast food places, personally, but to each their own. I'd generally recommend delivery if you're nearby over going there, but what I find a hassle may not be the same for you.
Of course, take it with a grain of salt - I'm trying to be positive here, but I'm obviously frustrated and in a position that has me disinclined to return. (After all, if something else goes wrong, which recent review trends would seem to suggest is likely, I don't know that it will...
Read moreEdit: Reached out to checkers like they asked and never heard back. Awesome to have the appearance of caring on the review reply but never followed up.
Was trapped in the drive through for a full an hour and they still got our order wrong. Employees were going car to car asking who had what order and giving their food to them while being trapped in the drive through line. When we got to the first window (at the 30 minute mark) they asked us what we ordered. We told them and they took payment. We were then asked to go to the second window. We waited another 20 minutes where no cars moved. At the 50 minute mark in the car the person in front of us started yelling "I've been here for over an hour!". By time we got up to the window, we too had waited a full hour as well. They asked us (again) what we ordered. Looked at our food and said "this is cold, we have to make it again". After another 5 minutes we got our food. They forgot our fries and it was lukewarm at best. Thought it would be easier to stop here for a quick bite... I won't make that...
Read moreI had to edit my review on the downtown Kalamazoo checkers Restaurant unfortunately... i went to the website to see if they were open so i could grab a quick bite and it stated that they were open until midnight. I pulled up to the speaker at 11:22pm on Feb 20th. The woman then proceeded to tell me that they were already closed. I mentioned to her that the website said they were open until 12am and she barked back at me that "clearly we're closed " i didn't ask for the rude behavior nor was it appreciated. Is this establishment supposed to be open until midnight as stated on the website and they just closed early? If they did not close the restaurant before actual closing time then the website needs updated please. Also, maybe teach the girl working during the time and date stamp i posted, better customer...
