I have to start off with usually this location is fairly solid. A few little issues from time to time but today it took a huge drop. The line was 10 people deep out the door and it appeared there was only two employees working. One was solely standing at the register while the other was very slowly dishing out ice cream. While we're in line it appeared that another gentleman came on shift and then there was one other person that literally swept up one piece of trash on the floor and that was the only thing we ever saw him do. No I'm not sure if a lot of the ice cream was sold out or not but from the look of the case about half of it was down to its last quarter scope. I will say the gentleman that had come on shift was moving much quicker and doing a good job but he was still the soul person dishing out ice cream and the gentleman that he took over four seem to just Meander back and forth for a good 8 to 10 minutes without ever actually doing anything. During the same time the employee who had picked up one piece of trash was just counting the tip jar next to the young lady the register which seemed a little frustrating when you've got about 30 plus people in line. As for the ice cream I had ordered a brownie sundae and I got it with chocolate brownie ice cream not realizing that the Brownie and the brownie sundae is actually just a bunch of chopped up pieces of brownie they put on top of ice cream. So in essence I got two scoops of chocolate brownie ice cream but only one scoop worth of ice cream. that was almost $9. My wife ordered a basic cone and a scoop of ice cream and they charged us $1.25 for the basic cone and when my wife asked about that she said oh no that's just how it goes. I've been to Betty Ray's many times and have no recollection of ever being charged for a basic cone. So after waiting in line for 25 minutes maybe even more than that and then feeling like we got overcharged it's going to be a hard sell for us to go back especially with other options nearby. I would give four and a half Stars it's the kid who came on at about 5:00 and was rocking it out and doing his best to take care of everyone. And as I said before this is an unfortunate review because most of the time it's pretty decent and almost every time the ice cream is quality but the ice cream isn't good enough to justify that type of service going forward and it seems like that's been a...
Read moreHands down the Best Ice Cream in Kansas City!!! Awesome owner and servers makes every visit a great experience.
I heard about Betty Rae's through word of mouth and I have not been able to stop myself from going back for more! I love how they have an ever changing menu and every visit can just blow your mind with new flavors that they come up with.
I've tried plenty of flavors already, but today they unveiled the new and limited time only flavor... CHICKEN & WAFFLES! A maple-rosemary base with diced, breaded & baked chicken and fresh waffle chunks! My favorite flavor so far! I hope they keep it and make it a permanent flavor, because the time that I spent there today, I saw about 6+ people get the flavor after being advertised on social media an hour prior! Social media is definitely the way to go now and their ice cream are very photo-food-genic!
They make their own ice cream waffle cones in store and it completes the ice cream experience! Always fresh and when your lucky they could still be warm!
I've also gotten their lattes which are delicious because you can ask to have any scoop of ice cream to be added to elevate the flavor of the latte!
The place is super clean. Love all the art on the wall and the signs for the ice cream flavors are darling! You can also purchase any ice cream flavors as a pint, quart or even a whole tub!
Other flavors that you should definitely try are the cookie and cream, thai basil pineapple, green tea, and well everything is just soooo darn good!
The owner David is the most attentive and sincere shop owner I've ever met. I had bought 8 containers of ice cream for my Brother's graduation party and he let me borrow his cooler to take the home in! Very personable and friendly. The staff is great too!!! Everyone is very chill and are definitely ice cream lovers!
Thank you Betty Rae's for your existence! Will need to come back for Ice Cream taco tuesdays!!!! (Waffle cones turned into taco shaped with sprinkles and...
Read moreDelicious, hip flavors for adults or children. This is one of the trendiest spots in the Waldo area right now. This summer, every evening from 5 or 6 to past 9 at night, there was a line stretching out the door the whole time. Somewhat high-priced, but you get incredible ice cream! Flavors range from the more standard "Vanilla Bean" and "Chocolate Brownie" to daring choices like "Goat Cheese Apricot Candied Walnut" and "Lavender Honey." And they offer much more beyond scoops in cones. Their baristas can make you a fresh ice cream cookie sandwich or an adult beverage ice cream shake. At our first visit, my wife ordered a White Russian, which had some vanilla ice cream -- thick, strong, and incredible, from my taste of it. I ordered a S'mores Sundae in a waffle bowl with Lavender Honey ice cream. It came drizzled with a little hot fudge, and they torched the marshmallows on top as we watched. Delicious! Despite the crowds, we were able to find seats inside. There isn't a lot of seating, and don't expect it to be perfectly clean, as they don't seem to try to keep up with the heavy flow of traffic. Maybe it's part of the hipster edge they're going for, which I'm assuming from the rundown carelessness of our table tilting badly any time we leaned on it. It's well lit inside, though, with some quirky, colorful decor including a flavor suggestion board and local artist illustrations on display. We'll certainty go back sometime when we want a fun and tasty...
