Nestled outside the heart of bustling Kansas City lies a treasure that has stood the test of time, drawing locals and visitors alike with its charm. Breit’s, a beloved mainstay, is more than just a place to grab a bite; it’s an institution that embodies the essence of a community. From its attentive and pleasant staff to its flavor-packed sandwiches and nostalgic decor, Breit’s offers an experience that is both familiar and welcoming, like coming home.
The menu, though modest in size, is a testament to the philosophy that quality trumps quantity. Each item is thoughtfully crafted, reflecting a deep understanding of flavor and value. The sandwiches are a standout. Take, for instance, their signature Reuben. Corned beef, a touch of tangy sauerkraut, gentle cheese, and a generous spread of dressing, all nestled between slices of perfectly toasted rye bread. Even though it’s not piled high requiring you to unhinge your jaw just to take a bite, it’s a beautiful sandwich that commands attention and leaves a lasting impression, without breaking the bank.
It is, by all accounts, more than just a place to eat; it’s a comforting constant, an unassuming cornerstone of a community, a place where time seems to slow down just a little, a haven that offers a warm welcome and a taste of old world speak easy nostalgia with every visit. The warm & friendly staff, combined with their small menu delivers on both flavor and value, making it a standout. If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of visiting here, you owe it to yourself to discover what makes Breit’s such a cherished part of Kansas...
Read moreI had the pleasure of visiting Breit's on the recommendation from a friend that lives in KC. I was passing through town and looking for a neighborhood bar to have a drink, unwind, get a little sleep and get back on the road. Let me tell you, Breit's is not the kind of place that you stop by for a beer. It's the kind of place that you have way to many and don't regret it. As soon as you arrive you know that everyone in the bar knows every detail of every other person's life. Not in a bad way. It felt as if this was the gathering place for when someone has passed, when someone achieves something great, when a neighbor needs a shoulder to lean on or just to gather to watch their favorite sporting event. There was a banner supporting the local high school alumni association. I can imagine the local high school reunions, the elation or disappointment after every Friday night football game, or the proud boast that comes when one of their own does good. All that being said, I was immediately made to feel welcomed. Someone at the bar(I wish I remembered their name) bought me a beer and somehow that was the code that I was part of the group. I was encouraged to have one the sandwiches and judging by the size of the "kitchen" I didn't have high hopes. I was soooo wrong. I ordered the Reuben and it was one of the best that I have ever had. If you are in the area, definitely stop by, get the reuben, and tell the bartender Tony that Brian from...

Breits is a home away from home kind of place. We went on a Sunday. The bartender Tony is so friendly and attentive. There is no way you would expect the sandwichs to be so big and tasty if you saw kitchen. It's small and makes great sandwiches and sides. I had the tuna salad sandwich. I can't wait to order it as a wrap. Definitely get the reuben. I tasted my husband's and it was on point. We got all the sides. The macaroni and potatoe salads are true to KC style. There is no lack of charm with this place. The crowd on a Sunday afternoon was that of your typical neighborhood bar. Quaint, cozy and friendly. Outdoor space is large and plenty of room for outdoor activities. I can't wait to see what the new owners have in store for this place. They did an amazing job of keeping the original space as it was! And the black and tan is cold and...
