📍 Cascone’s Restaurant - 3737 N Oak Trafficway, Kansas City, MO 64116 🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽 pasta night! The Lobster Ravioli is a must 🦞🔥

If you’ve been around Kansas City (specifically the Northland) for any length of time Cascone’s is a name you’ll hear fairly frequently and is generally spoken with a culinary reverence of sorts. Having lived here my whole life and only had it through various catered events or through their excellent sauce that can be purchased at the grocery store, my wife and I finally took the opportunity to experience the real deal. We specifically took advantage of their restaurant week menu and were thoroughly impressed. Starting with an old fashioned and a glass of rosé to drink we enjoyed a spread of various olives and cheeses, fresh bread, and a delicious dipping oil. Everything was well presented and portioned. A very good start that we were too hungry to bother taking pictures of. Our choice of a Caesar or Italian salad with house dressing followed that. We got one of each. The house dressing was far better than your standard Italian dressing most places trot out and the Caesar salad was tossed in the perfect amount of dressing. I had the seafood risotto and my wife enjoyed the Bistecca Spedini Sara Ann. The risotto was billed as the best you’ll ever eat, and it did not disappoint. Creamy and loaded with shrimp and lobster (and a hearty dash of Parmesan at my request). I’ll be daydreaming about it until our next chance to go back. The Spedini was excellent as well. Excellently cooked steak laced with cheese and other seasonings and paired with a garnish of pepperoncini slices. I tried a few bites and enjoyed it, but was happy with my choice. The final course was our choice of dessert. My wife chose the cannoli and I went with the cheesecake. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. The perfect end to an excellent evening. The atmosphere and the service were excellent. That’s something worth noting as seemingly all restaurants struggle with staffing. My wife noted that the spacing between the various courses was perfect; Never overwhelmed by food but never left wondering where the next course was. We were checked on often, our drinks never ran dry, and our leftover food was boxed up for us ready for the trip home. Thank you all for the wonderful evening! We can’t wait to come back.

Don't feel bad of you miss out on eating at this long time Italian restaurant in KC. Sadly this restaurant did not live up to the long time local that recommended it (I'm guessing memories from his youth colored his opinion). The best part of the meal was the salads that came with the entreé. We really liked the addition of chickpeas and red pepper too a standard house salad. The house bread (upcharge) was bland and the plain whipped butter was the best part of this part. The entreés had mixed and poor results. The Fra Diovolo sauce was spiced well and the pasta was not as al dent as expected with this meal. I added on chicken for a $6 upcharge and was enormously disappointed with the quantity. I would expect a whole beast at that price. The maybe 4oz of chicken was very dry. My wife had the gnocchi and substituted the pomodoro sauce. Again sauce was well seasoned, but the pasta was overcooked and mushy. She added an upcharge for mushrooms for $2.50 and we're again disappointed by the quantity. I added an a la carte meatball. Sauce in it good, but the meatball was again disappointing with way too much flour and not enough seasoning. I've had better meatballs in the Army. Hoping the cannoli would salvage this disappointing meal I selected the standard and the day's special chocolate cheesecake cannoli. The cannoli were thin and undercooked. The filling was decent. To celebrate the evening we ordered a bottle on the higher end of their menu. We have the waiter multiple opportunities to refill when our glasses were darn near empty. Apparently that's not his job. This relic is in desperate need of a refresh to the menu. After they fix that they should work on the late 70s early 80s decor. If they don't fix the former this historic restaurant won't last another generation.

I visited Cascone’s north for dinner with family last night following a funeral. I made a reservation for 7pm approximately a week in advance. It was a very busy evening (looked like homecoming or prom was going on) so I was very happy to have that reservation in order to avoid a long wait. I walked in and waited my turn to approach the host stand. Upon my turn, I spoke to a polite teenage girl with long blondish brown hair in a ponytail. I said, “ Hi, I’m checking in for xxxx with a reservation at 7 for a party of 4.” I had a smile on my face. Polite. Basic decency. The girl again was polite and turned to an elderly bald man with glasses to her left who looked at the computer for the reservation (I’m assuming). I think he located it. He then glanced at me and in a condescending and annoyed tone said is everyone here? I said they’re parking the car. He looked away and said you’ll be seated when your entire party is here. This was said with a positively dripping amount of annoyance. It’s not a great impression. I know I wasn’t the only one who felt his condescension as I looked back to the teenage hostess and she grimaced at me in the way you would when you feel bad for someone. I stepped back and for the next minute watched the way he interacted with other guests. He was pleasant, friendly and attentive. The rest of my party came in in less than a minute. I waited my turn again to approach the host stand. This time I spoke only to the elderly man. When he saw me approach his demeanor changed from light to annoyed again. I said to him, “we’re all here now”. He didn’t acknowledge me at all. He gave me a tight lipped squint eyed look which was really uncalled for and addressed the teenage hostess. He told her table 73. No don’t take them wait for him. Some other guy came a bit later and took us to our table. As we’re walking I said to my family member I have a feeling we’re going to the worst table in the restaurant. I think I was spot on unfortunately. He sat us across from the drink station/waitstaff station in what I can only describe as a cubby hole also directly next to an at least currently unused room. All of this to say, I don’t understand why he was immediately rude to me and continued to be upon our second interaction. We were there to mark a solemn occasion and didn’t appreciate the rude treatment. I checked with my party and asked if they picked up his annoyance towards me when we were ready to be seated and they agreed with me. I’m an adult and I know when someone is being rude. I’m not wrong about this. It was uncalled for. I was dressed appropriately in a long sleeved dress, I was well kempt and I used my manners in addressing the restaurant employees. I feel fairly certain the elderly man is the owner or part of the owners family based on pictures on the wall. It was very disappointing and I won’t be back. I do want to note that Carlos our waiter and all of the additional staff were very kind and...

We tried them for the first time after hearing nothing but great things and let me tell you the food AMAZING however the service not so great we were sat and waited about 10 minutes prior to getting drinks which he never came to ask what my child wanted to drink as we were in the restroom and my sister said he just brought water which I wanted any ways but was never asked if we wanted something different when he noticed we were all there (he pasted frequently as he was waiting on two other tables by us) who where already pretty deep into there setting and he never checked back in until after about another 15 minutes we were asked if we were ready to order at that time I was finally able to order my child a drink and lunch we both order Alfredo of course mine was a lunch size hers was kids but for some odd reason we both received kids portions when asked the first time I was told that’s the portion size but I advised if that’s the case I should have ordered of the kids menu I also added shrimp to mine not so great it was over cooked and hard to cut with a butter knife my sister ordered the what looked like manicotti but it was zucchini instead and she only got two little rolls off the daily special menu she also asked for meat sauce which wasn’t added or brought until after we reiterated it with the server upon finishing I ordered another adult lunch Alfredo Togo for my husband and gosh the amount he got was loaded I proceeded to speak to the waiter again about the portion size I received compared to the one I was taking home and explained I’m not paying $14 for mine when I got a kids portion then he decided to agree I was never rude and neither was he but was odd on why you would tell me oh that’s the portion size the first time but when another example was presented he started agreeing crazy how your the waiter and work there know what was placed and never questioned it yourself prior to brining it to the table he did speak with management and they did comp half and only charged me for the two kids size portions however when my sister got her check they tried to charge her $8 for a SIDE of meat sauce a small one at that which a big wasn’t needed since she only got two little rolls but on the menu it clearly stated $3 we were there for a total of 1hr and 45 minutes and mostly waiting on our main dishes we had to ask for water refills I just don’t feel as if the waiter Chris was very attentive as he should have we still left a tip cause we understand pay as a waiter but was still pretty disappointed with service as it will really kill the experience in all honestly not sure if we will be back solely due to service kinda scared we will get the same experience but will...

The only thing I've heard of Cascones was amazing reviews so we thought to try it last night. On first impression, we walk in to a plethora of frames of family pictures and restaurant origin which was nice however, not far from that were a few eyesores, such as the little "store" displaying cascones branded products and the industrial silver shelves right at the entrance.

We were shortly seated at a table and were provided with paper menus as well as paper placemats under the appetizer plates. We then started taking a look around to find that the decorations seemed outdated and cheap. There is a review amongst these reviews with a picture of a floral pendant light with green and yellow colored paper ribbons hanging from the ceiling by none other than a thumbtack.

Now on to the food. We order, my s/o gets the Chicken Limonata Elaina and I ordered the Gnocchi Alla Vodka with a side of grilled vegetables. My significant others Dish was okay but stood alongside an average with Olive Garden. There was simply too much sauce which took away from the balance of the dish. Onto my dish: a food runner brought my dish and asked if I wanted some parmasean, I said yes, and proceeds to head to the kitchen were he comes back from with a large bowl of powdered parmasean. He grabs one scoop, but one BIG scoop and puts it on the Gnocchi. He told me when to stop and it was already too much before I could say anything. I don't hold him at fault for anything as he was VERY nice and had an enjoyable personality, however, the dish was unfortunately ruined for my tastes/person preference. I tried the dish and the parmasean was overpowering and gave the sauce a sort of salty and vinegar like taste. I couldn't eat it and didn't want to say anything because I felt bad. So I continued to my grilled veggies. The veggies were completely raw, and was as if I had gotten assorted raw vegetables from the cafeteria dowsed in olive oil. But it tasted fresh and I honesty preferred to eat that over the pasta.

However, the chef was walking around and noticed that my bf was basically done with his dish, and I had barely touched mine. He comes to our table and proceed to ask "why aren't you eating your food, is there something wrong?"

To my surprise, I felt like a child being asked why I wasn't eating. I then had no choice but to explain, and the server had said they could make something else, I asked what was fresh and light and not smothered in sauce/cheese and she said they could make anything, which wasn't the most helpful. I settled with a Caesar salad which was very average in relation to the reviews and hype I've heard of...
