When friends, coworkers or family have asked what I like best about living where we live, I've typically responded: "Well, first off, we're within easy walking distance to Foo's Fabulous Frozen Custard in Beautiful Brookside." I'm not kidding. Not every time. But more often than not, that's been the start of my response. So here's why: Yeah, the custard concretes & sundaes are, as foretold on the awning, Fabulous. But, more importantly, it's a neighborhood operation, an integral part of and phenomenon made possible by Beautiful Brookside. And that matters because it manifests itself in the way this place provides first jobs to young people who live near it, in the way its walls are decorated, in the way its products are chosen and presented, in the way it draws neighbors together. So, about those custards: Everything starts as vanilla. How it goes from there is up to you: choose the ingredients you'd like to add or pick a "proven favorite" from combinations previously concocted and named by the employees and customers who came before you. You'll find these described on the blackboard that covers the north wall. The choice is yours....

Select your favorite add-in items for a beautiful concrete, made to order. Don't go close to Brookside without stopping by for a yummy treat. Get away, to go Christmas shopping, and bring home a special treat for all. I know these things to be true, because I spent a lot of time on a dairy farm, early in my life. Read moreThis is the third time in a month I tried to take my family there when they were supposed to be open according to their google page. I used to enjoy their ice cream and wanted to share it with my children now that I have moved here. They were not open any of the times with signs in the window that they were not open for this that and the other. I wonder if they even want customers any more. Was just trying to share a memory with the kids but clearly they don’t abide by their google hours for those who are driving 40+ mins to come see them. Disappointing for sure.
