My boyfriend and I went to Jasper's last night for my 30th birthday. I had been craving Italian food for the past few weeks and scoured the internet for suggestions. A dear friend mentioned Jasper's and after hearing him sing their praise, I made a reservation a few days prior. We were seated almost immediately for our reservation and had a very lovely corner near an incredibly loud table of a family of 10. Throughout the evening I had to raise my voice to be heard over them, with my boyfriend sitting less than a foot away from me. Okay, it's not ideal, but I've been in loud restaurants before! Being where we were, it felt like it took a while for our waiter to find his way back to us, the same with the young man serving bread and butter to guests. He only came by once and never again. I even asked the woman who delivered our entrees to us for more bread and he didn't make the rounds again. I suppose it was because the large party next to us had already been served and we were glossed over. Then again, on a busy Saturday night, during a pandemic - this may just be the norm here to have mediocre, slow service. We ordered ourselves a couple of cocktails, sodas, an appetizer to share, our entrees and towards the end of our meal, we ordered from the dessert cart -- I think this was the highlight of the entire night. Appetizer: Lobster Ravioli 9/10 Salad: Caesar salad 5/10 My salad had a few pieces of romaine lettuce that were turning brown. It's not what you want to see when you order a salad, ever. I separated the brown and wilted from the rest and continued. Entrees: 6/10 My boyfriend ordered the Tortellini Romano and I ordered the Linguine Fra' Diavolo. I ate more of his entree than I did my own, his dish was so much better. I've tried the 'spicy' pasta dishes now at Garazzo's and Jasper's and it's safe to say I will never order them again. I should stick to the staples and highest reviewed items. My pasta was a bit on the dry side, lacked any real flavor and had very little sauce to cover it. However, the shrimp in my dish was good. Dessert: He ordered the cannoli, I ordered the New York Style Cheesecake. I loved my cheesecake and loved the presentation of it even more. 10/10 Overall, it was a okay experience. Sadly, I was not blown away by the service received or the food. We spent nearly $200 for dinner, after tip. We both had big enough portions that 1/2 of our pasta dishes went home with us. Of course, my leftovers were because I didn't enjoy my meal very much, but I think in a restaurant such as this, you're paying for the ambiance and the mood it sets more than anything else. If that was all I was rating my birthday dinner on, it would get a 10/10, but after spending so much money, I expected incredible service and amazing food. I was disappointed when service was slow, prices were high and my salad was going bad and my entree lacked flavor. Final: 6/10 I won't be spending this much money on bad food for my next birthday.

Let me start by saying, I usually enjoy my experiences at Jasper’s — but unfortunately, last night was a flop. At 1st I wasn't even going to post a review but decided to afterall due to the circumstances that have carried on into today. There were 8 of us celebrating a friend’s birthday, and while my meal was good, two others who ordered the same dish said it was overly buttery. I had ordered an entrée that comes with a side salad, and in addition, I purposely ordered an à la carte spinach salad because I planned to combine them into one large salad. However, only the spinach salad arrived. When I asked about my side salad, the server told me that the à la carte salad replaced it. I reminded him that I was paying for the spinach salad separately and should still receive the side that comes with my entrée. He insisted no, the spinach replaced it — which I interpreted to mean I’d just be paying a slight upcharge vs full price. When I asked him directly, he said yes, thats correct. I was disappointed since that wasn’t my intention with the salad, but I let it go. Things went downhill from there. When I asked for my check (I was on a time crunch), the server returned with one bill for the entire table and told us that for parties over six, there are only two pay options: either one person pays the whole bill, or it’s split evenly across the number of guests. No individual tabs. We were all shocked — the bill was nearly $500! We explained that this policy had not been communicated to us ahead of time. Had we known, we could have coordinated accordingly. We're all single moms, and none of us were prepared for someone to float the entire bill until all paybacks could be made or to cover more than our individual meals. The lack of communication from the server was unacceptable — and yes he apologized, but not for HIS neglect but for OUR misunderstanding lol. We had no choice but to split the bill evenly, which ended up costing several of us $30–$40 more than what our meals actually were (including tip). To make matters worse, it took nearly 40 minutes for the server to finalize the payments. That delay made me very late picking up my child — something that could’ve been avoided entirely with better communication upfront. Oh, and yes, it did end up that I got charged full price for that spinach salad smh. While I was jipped out of my side salad as initially proved, at that point, we were all too upset and drained to argue about it. AND here we are the next day — the birthday girl checked her bank account this morning and it’s in the NEGATIVE!! All bc of multiple billing errors on their end, four separate charges were taken out of her account. This is beyond frustrating and completely unacceptable. I'm extremely disappointed how all of this was handled. What should’ve been a fun, simple birthday dinner turned into a stressful, costly mess. I expected better from Jasper’s, and I truly hope they address these issues for future guests.

My family and I decided on this place for my Dad's retirement party. Unfortunately, we did not have the greatest experience like so many others have had. First, our reservation was at 7pm, but our table did not become open until 7:30. I went to the bar while waiting on our table, but only one bar tender was working. I stood there for about 5 minutes until he even acknowledged me. Then he kept serving others while I waited patiently for two beers. We were seated in the back of the restaurant which looks very different from the inside part. The back is not as elegant or nice feeling as the inside. The part that was most unpleasant was our waiter Kyle. He had a very snarky tone and cut us off while speaking. It was not just me that noticed this. My sister-in-law and brother were both very angry at how he treated us throughout the evening. Granted, I do believe they looked short-staffed, however, that does not excuse the rudeness that he displayed to us. He laughed when I thought the Italian meatloaf was one of the specials because I saw it on the menu in the front of the restaurant. He told me that was the "white trash" part of the restaurant. I found it inappropriate that he would say that about any part of the restaurant in which he worked. The salads that came with our meals barely had any Italian dressing, and they came with one baby grape tomato each. So we were basically eating flavorless crunchy water. The bread was phenomenal! I was excited when my lasagna arrived, but the taste left much to be desired. The sauce was from a jar and was just a liquid tomato paste with no herbs or kick. I wanted a robust, chunky, and spiced tomato sauce, but this reminded me of sauce from a can of Chef Boyardee. My spouse tried it and said it reminded them of sauce from a jar of Ragu. The lasagna itself lacked any depth of flavor really. There were no herbs or spices that I could taste, not even salt. Finally, it was incredibly soft in texture all the way through. It was just mush on top of more mush. There was no bite or varied texture in the lasagna which just made it unpleasant to eat. I think it is because the noodles were cooked too long and the meat was chopped too finely. I had two others at my table try it and they agreed with what I was saying. My sister-in-law's stuffed chicken medallions had a similar complaint: there was just a real lack of seasoning, especially salt. The Sicilian potatoes were very bland and once again, lacked two simple ingredients that could have elevated them: salt and pepper. Overall, the food was just bland and not exciting, but the worst part was knowing how much they charged for all this. My one piece of lasagna cost me $21. I could have gone to Costco and bought a two-pack of lasagna that both tastes better and costs less. I am glad so many people like this place, but my family and I just did not have that great of an experience ourselves.

I have been dining at Jasper's for over a decade. Reading through some reviews I wanted to help some of those that struggle coming to the restaurant. First, this family and restaurant has been operating and serving patrons for almost 70 years. You don't last that long, especially in the food service business, without doing numerous things correctly. Many of the staff in front and back of the house have been working there for multiple decades. You don't retain staff in any business that long without treating them and the customer fairly and politely. That also leads to these dishes being prepared and served with an immense amount of quality and consistency. Having eaten every dish on the menu and popular and less popular dishes time and again I can vouch that I have never noticed an "off" meal. Finally, the staff it top notch and will provide you with a top of the line experience regardless of how you dress or behave. They made a bold move years ago to drop the formal requirements of old to many top restaurants, but prided themselves on maintaining that service regardless. There is nothing more true and the experience is just as great as the food. Second, this is one of the most authentic Italian restaurants with authentic dishes in the city and region. If you want something smothered in cheese, cream, and bottled spices stick to your chain restaurants. At Jasper's it's about being able to taste all the ingredients and staying true to Italian culture, i.e. never waste and find a way to make a great meal. You have to lose your Americana mindset and be open to something not Americanized. Many of the best dishes are the simplest as you can taste every ingredient that went into it. Additionally many of the items in the deli (Marco Polo's) are prepared fresh in the same way. So you can get a quicker experience with just as good of food. Third, the restaurant continues to be truly family owned and not a facade behind a corporate backing. There are three generations of Mirabiles working there and they all know how to do every part of the business. If you take down your blinders you'll see Jasper Jr., 3J, Leonard, and Jordon cleaning items to make sure the experience is always top notch, working the line, behind the bar, or greeting people. I've never been in there for dinner or lunch where a single table never has them come by to introduce themselves and ask how everything is. For those that leave these comments after the fact, have some courage and state it when they come by. They'll immediately make sure there were no issues and likely give you a polite story about why it isn't like the chain restaurant you've been to for years. Finally, you can look up the numerous awards they've won, including consistently the top Italian experience in Kansas City for many years. In addition to the constant culinary trips they make to learn even more about how different regions in Italy prepare similar dishes. So if you've made it this far I hope you have a wonderful experience and I know you'll have a different perspective when dining, enjoying, and savoring your time at Jasper's. If you haven't you can see the hot take, close minded reviews. Finally, if you'd like a regular's suggestion on items to be astounded by here you go: -Appetizers = mozzarella theatre, livornese (if not getting the meal), the polenta, or the othello. -Dinner = Tortellini alla Romano, Cacio e Pepe (one of the truest dishes around), the Nanni, Pollo alla Piemontese, Marco Polo, Porkchop Leonardo, Fegato (scared of liver, you'll order seconds), the don Salvatore, Valdostana, Scampi Livornese (the one recipe they'll never give away), and the Aqua Pazzo. Come back enough and lean some off menu ones, they'll always be ready to prepare. -Dessert = pretty much anything on the cart they'll bring table side. I stick with the chocolate tartufo, cheesecake, or...

DO NOT GO HERE! If you have a food allergy the wait staff does not care about them or they forget somehow even after confirming on other dishes. So I went to Jasper's on 1/29/24 I saw the website pictures and the advertisements that they put on some food groups on Facebook and wanted to check them out. I went in knowing I have an uncommon food allergy to onions which causes breathing problems coughing and chest pain and I have been told by more than a few restaurants hey I'm sorry we can't serve you and I am completely okay with that for my safety.

However at Jasper's after telling the waiter my allergy he did not seem concerned at all I told him I'd like to try a few different things I ordered one of the penne pasta their ravioli and a Marco Unfortunately they were out of the Marco so I asked the waiter to recommend something else he told me both the pork chop and the shrimp and wild rice were fantastic.

So I ended up trying both of those, again he already confirmed with the ravioli and the pasta there were no onions we got the shrimp and wild rice which truly tasted amazing however about 5-7 minutes after my guest and I ate a portion of the wild rice I get the pork chops I see nothing but cut up onions in the potatoes and at this point, I asked the waiter to take back the potatoes and make sure that the pork chop was not cooked in the same pan that the potatoes and onions were cooked in, he comes back he says he replated the food and that's it. Now this was not on my mind at the time however most good restaurants will apologize and ask if the customer would like something else not just replate and cut half the meal out however at Jasper's that was not offered nor was it even considered another three to four minutes I'm guessing on the time, but I am starting to feel like garbage my chest starts hurting I'm getting outright dizzy the person I'm with is getting a little worried because I was turning ghost White I go outside to get a little air and though the restaurant was not busy in the slightest we were our waiters only table I still didn't want to cough and Clear My Throat at the table and being at a restaurant it's not what I would want anyone to have to hear after a bit outside go back and sit down and while I am clearly having issues the waiter brings me the bill doesn't show that much concern for my state he packs up our food because I'm at this point done eating. I asked him if it was okay if we just sat there for a little bit because I was not doing well he said take your time about 20-25 minutes went by and I was still doing horrible and in a lot of ways getting worse he comes back and says oh you don't have to worry about tipping me I told my manager I did not want you to I feel so bad however, if you would just sign your name on the ticket that way I can process this again I'm not really in the mindset to even question I'm doing all I can to focus on breathing. Long and short after having a manager confirm that the wild rice also had onions in it he said he would comp the meal it has not been comped at the time I even offered to pay for the two desserts as well as the pasta that my guest ate. It was not at all a good experience.

Look this review is not complaining the money is a secondary concern my primary concern is the way the entire meal was handled and the lack of care about their guest's safety and overall health do yourselves and your loved ones a favor if you or they have food allergies DO NOT GO HERE you could end up a lot worse than...

My wife and I went for our first time tonight and it will be our last time as we had a laughably bad experience. I had made reservations in advance so we were seated immediately but once seated we were ignored by all waitstaff despite the tables surrounding us being served and my attempts at making eye contact with waitstaff. We watched another couple get seated near us and greeted by their waiter while we were still ignored. We gave it 20 minutes of waiting before I flagged down the waitress serving most of the tables near us, asking if she knew who was supposed to be caring for our table because we had not had anyone even bring us water yet. The waitress acted surprised and said that she could take care of us, brought us water and left. Almost immediately after another waiter came up to our table trying to clarify a question on "our order," I let him know he had the wrong table as we had not gotten a chance to order yet, turned out it was for the other couple that had gotten seated after us. We were then each brought a piece of hard, but warm bread. We did have to request butter which was clearly taken directly from the refrigerator as it was rock hard and impossible to spread. When we're able to order, we ordered the table side mozzarella (or so we thought) and my wife and I each ordered a pasta entree. I watched our waitress write down the whole order yet we never got our table side mozzarella (but the other couple seated after us got table side mozzarella). I got the Rigatoni alla Vodka and added grilled chicken for an extra $7; the pasta and sauce were good but the 14 small chunks of dry chicken with a weird aftertaste brought down the quality of the dish. My wife ordered the Jasper's Classic Italian with angel hair pasta, marinara sauce and added 2 meatballs; though the sauce would be better described as a watery juice. As we ate we both noted that our pasta was cold toward the final bites and this was not due to us taking a too long to eat as we both decided we were finished within about 15 minutes. When we got our check notably the table side mozzarella was not listed, even though I watched the waitress write it down as we originally ordered it.
