Bumping this review by a star because of the awesome service. All of the staff were friendly, helpful, and worked together so we never had to wait for anything. It was obviously a team that liked their jobs and truly made me feel like a guest.
Food was German but with an American twist. The pfefferjager was spicy but best with the sweet mustard. The bread (purchased instead of house made) was good as were the meats on the charcuterie board we had. Would have been nice to have had mayo or horseradish though. It was odd to me that my pretzel only had salt on one half which made for a bit of a bipolar experience.
My friend had the apfel (apple) cider and liked it. I had a flight of Dunkel, Resilience IPA, Winterbock, and Bourbon Barrel Uber Fest. The Dunkel was best, with a satiny, malty mouth feel and wonderful coffee and caramel notes. I've always said Americans serve their beer too cold. The Resilience IPA is proof of that as it is pedestrian at tap temperature, but outstanding at 55°, as even my friend, who finds most IPAs to be too hoppy for his taste. The Bourbon Barrel Uber Fest was too sweet and the bourbon taste clashed with the malt and yeast to produce a strange after taste.
I'm saving my harshest criticism for the Winterbock. This beer is not a doppelbock. There was none of the warm maltiness typical of the style and it was too light, by far, in body and mouth feel. A decent bock beer, but to call this a doppelbock demonstrates a basic lack of knowledge about the style.
The beer hall (I'm not going to play along with the kitschy German used everywhere in what is a quintessentially American pub) could have used some tapestries or wall coverings to break up the crowd noise. It has all of the clamor and echoing din of a high school cafeteria. The twenty plus foot ceiling didn't help in this...
Read moreIf I could give this place zero stars I would. Our group decided to try this place since some of our party enjoy their brewed beer, and were excited to try their German inspired food. When we came in there was a sign to seat ourselves. We found a high top table towards the back patio. When we approached we didn’t see chairs, but saw some bar stools in the corner. So we thought we have to grab them for our party. When I approached the table with few bar stools, a man came behind me and yanked them out of my hand and yelled they were for the patio and we would have to seat out there. Then proceeded to go back behind the bar while rolling his eyes. Honestly we didn’t know we weren’t allowed to use them. It would have been nice if the rude staff member knew how to speak to customers and just said “unfortunately those stools were for the patio area as these were standing tables.” We just proceeded to seat outside since the staff member made a scene in front of other customers. Furthermore several people apart of our party overheard our waiter and the classless staff member talk about our table since someone in our party doesn’t drink and asked for an “ice tea.” Which by the way we were told they can just get water from 2 orange jugs sitting outside. I guess you can’t come here to try their food if you are not a beer drinker! At this point none of us wanted to stay after being berated in front of other customers and talked about. As we tried to get our waiters attention he ignored us multiple times. We literally had to track him down by the front door entrance to cash out the couple beers our table ordered. This was our first and last time coming here nor would I be suggesting this place to no one. If you like having terrible customer service and overhearing staff talk about you then this might be the...

The perfect place to hang out and socialize with friends when visiting or living in Kansas City, great tasting brews - in particular we love the Helles Lager. Located along the Trolley Track Bike Trail in Waldo for the bicyclist wanting to take a knee and have a cold brew and snack; KC Bier is both great for singles, couples, and Families. Very casual place with friendly service and great food options to accompany a variety of locally in-house brewed beers and wine choices.
Open everyday but Monday, I recommend a visit on a weekend evening when they expand their menu to offer Oven Roasted Half Chickens and entertainment. We make a point to sample several of their beers and always load up our table with a variety of German style foods to keep us grounded and nourished while we partake in the beverages. The go to menu items for us to have on our table for all to share are the Bavarian Style Pretzels, Sausages and Brats, Weisswurst and the Curry Wursts. Will need to offer that the Curry Wurst is no way like the original Curry Wurst from Germany - but ohh well, it’s Missouri. For sides we go for the Cucumber Salad, Sauerkraut, and Potato Salads. Really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu - even the Plum Streusel is worth a try.
Inside seating in the Bierhalle or outside in the Biergarten, either way the beer will be just as cold & tasty and the hospitality...
