I've eaten here 3 times since we moved to Liberty in the last 2 years. The first time my wife and I had Lasagna, the day we moved into our new home. The marinara sauce was just awesome... like a sweet Garlic Basil... and those layers ricotta cheese!!! And did I mention the portions were HUUGE! Just awesome! As hungry as we both were, neither one of us could finish the entire serving and took it home. We thought it was the best lasagna we'd had in a very long time...but then we laughed and chalked that up to us both being so darn tired and hungry from unloading and unpacking all day.
The second time, we are here, we just wanted a pizza, but a change from Minsky's. Love our Minsky's, but like anything it gets old. We both really enjoyed the pizza. The crust was crisp, the sauce was tasty, the cheese was every bit as good as Minsky's. So we left pretty impressed. Hard to even come close to Minsky's in our book, here in Kansas City. And for the second time... The service was just on point. I never had an empty glass...the entire time we were there and they were busy both nights.
Last night, we decided we wanted to try the Lasagna, again. We actually ordered it as takeout...And it did not disappoint. It was everything we remembered it to be. Just amazing! All the flavors in the sauce and cheeses! I think we found our new favorite close to home Italian... And it's a great neighborly bar. While I was waiting for takeout, I struck up a conversation over the games on TV behind the bar. Just a really nice neighborhood establishment.
And I keep forgetting to take pictures of our meals, but your mouth is just salivating from the aromas coming from the kitchen or from your takeout boxes... I can't wait to...
Read moreYou have the choice of original or thin for the crusts. Since my wife is gluten sensitive, pizza is out of the question at this place for her. I went with the original, but couldn't help think I would have been happier with the thin crust. My original crust reminded me of Pizza Hut crust. My pizza was good. I would rank it just above the take-and-bake pizzas for quality and taste. The restaurant was very nice. Lots of people there. Having a beer at the bar or sitting at one of the outside tables looked fun. My initial concern was that since this restaurant was on the far North side of town, it would have great reviews mainly because it is the closest option people have to where they live. As long as it wasn't horrible, they will love it since their options are limited. I gave Nicky's four stars since I did like it. Will I make the 8 mile trip for another Nicky's pizza, probably not. I can think of 4 other pizza places I like just as well if not better that are closer to me. Plus there are many more pizza...
Read moreI have been a fan of Nicky's for a long time now. I always find it challenging to pick a single item from the menu because I have tried most everything and it's all fantastic. If you're looking for a sandwich then both the grinder and calzones are my top picks for best value. The grinder because Nicky's take on the classic sandwich is particularly good, and the calzone because of the customizability that should allow anyone to find a good fit for their tastes. Of course the pizzas are the main focus and I have yet to find one that was any less good than the others. Still, I feel compelled to recommend one, and my choice would be the lasagna pizza because the blend of the two classic Italian dishes is just right and I don't think you will find a similar offering this good anywhere else. If you have the opportunity though I strongly recommend you give each specialty pizza a try because they...
