We had purchased a canary from this store, keeping in mind that we have two other birds at home. The canary was behaving very strangely at home when she was sleeping. She wouldn’t move and was hard as a rock. However, our other two birds were completely fine. The canary was being quarantined and was eating well and was also very playful. We called the store and they said they would make an exception to refund us the money since she had died so suddenly and out of nowhere. Us being very grateful we took her in as soon as possible, which was four days after she was deceased.
When we got there, the girl up front was getting ahold of the bird guy, Hank I presume his name is. He continued to lecture us about he we were unfit bird keepers and straight up told us “you killed it.” And how we should be grateful that he made an exception to refund us the money. He repeatedly told us how there’s usually a 48 hour guarantee but he was gladly making an exception. Seriously, this man kept repeating this same line over and over again. He then began to make us feel our deceased bird’s breastbone and said we weren’t feeding her and that she was starving. This bird was deceased for four days, her body was decomposing. I have spent hours in the room where we keep our birds and she ate until her hearts content. She would eat out of our hands and enjoyed millet and other seeds well! However when she slept at night it was as if she was out like a rock. Usually our other birds will react to me getting up from the bed, however the canary would not. You couldn’t wake her up if you wanted to. Hank repeatedly told us that we have going to call the vet and get to the bottom of this. He kept repeating us how he was going to call the vet, over and over again. Even when we reached the register he kept saying “well the vet didn’t answer us but I will get to the bottom of this and to how she died in your car.” Him repeatedly tell us that it was our fault that the bird died was so hurtful. We then asked the cashier if she could get him to stop. She said “well why he’s only trying to help you!” I don’t think blaming us for the death of our beloved Annalise is helping either one of us. We’ve never had a bad experience here until now. Not sure how I feel about this place anymore.
Keep in mind, to my understanding this man, Hank, doesn’t even work here. He followed me around for an hour trying to sell me one of his cockatiels when I had already explained that I had put down a deposit for a cockatiel at another store in Raytown. He followed my boyfriend and I around tell us he doesn’t get bird from Florida but hand-breeds them himself and kept trying to get us to purchase a bird from here. Then we asked him a question about a ferret my sister was going to purchase and he continued with “I don’t actually work here but I know their policies well.” I would love to get an apology from the store or even Hank for blaming us and continuing to make us feel like we are...
Read moreCannot ethically bring myself to return to this store after what I've heard about it. The owners mistreat both their animals AND their employees and I'm honestly shocked to hear it. I used to come to this store all the time, but after speaking to an employee I saw shopping at Petco, I just can't anymore. The owner doesn't allow employees to take care of his breeder snakes, but doesn't take care of them himself. They're left in filthy tubs, sometimes going days without water, and live rodents are left in the tubs UNATTENDED for long periods of time. The employee said sometimes the rodents even die of thirst/hunger and stink up the back room.... I can't imagine how many snakes are injured from this. Rats can kill snakes!!! I haven't been in the store for about a month now, but from how well taken care of the display reptiles were I never would of guessed what was going on in the back. They also apparently have employee walk-outs regularly because they are abusive and unprofessional towards them. And they recently fired staff members for complaining about their treatment. I usually like shopping local businesses, but I can't support a place that bullies its employees. I don't know if the employees sign some kind of confidentiality agreement so I'm not using names or pronouns to describe the person who told me. Needless to say, my mother and I were both horrified and will take our business elsewhere from now on. We can find dubia roaches for our lizards online for cheaper anyway! Do NOT shop...
Read moreMy child wanted a ball python for Christmas. So we began in October, to learn and gather what we would need by December. The staff at Miles of Exotics were absolutely fantastic with helping us know everything, from what YouTube channels to watch for research, and telling us everything that we needed to know before bringing a snake home. The entire team has been informative and so very helpful with making sure that we had the knowledge and all the equipment we'd need to have for proper environment and set up, and what to expect the first few weeks with a baby snake. The team was extremely patient as I placed multiple phone calls for several weeks, lol, with A LOT of questions (I did not want to bring a pet home just to fail because we missed something on our end). All of the staff is wonderful and Trevor especially has been amazing during the entire process, and with making sure my child was comfortable with holding the snake and giving us all of the advice we needed as we took the baby ball python home. He spent about 40 minutes of his time making sure my child was ready! Doing business with Miles of Exotics has been a pleasure, I can't recommend them enough for all of your pet needs. I wish more businesses in the Northland had as awesome of customer service, like...
