I've been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally stopped in. I will say the three stars is due to mainly to service and not food quality or taste. I ordered a Philly cheese steak but was given the chicken Philly and didn't know until I arrived home. While I wanted to return, I wasn't going back in the traffic on Fry Rd with the lane construction.
But the chicken Philly was absolutely delicious! And so much so that although I didn't have the best service, I'll return because that's how tastee it was. The name is befitting of the taste! I got the half lb but it definitely seemed like more because talk about being stuffed. It was stuffed with chicken, cheese and vegetables. And the roll was fresh and soft.
I couldn't even finish it and had half for breakfast this morning. Lol. And one of the marks of true good food is what the leftovers taste like. Still great. I popped the half in the oven on 350 and enjoyed it the same way I did the day before.
The disappointment was the fries. Seasoned well but soggy and limp when I arrived home. And I only stay a few minutes away from the food truck. I think changing up the packaging could help because them being in that white wrapping paper wasn't the best. The bag was wet which tells me the fries were hot when they were placed in but the heat just gave way to moisture being trapped in the bag.
The wait was long but I realized most orders seem to be done online because there were lots of grab and goes while I waited, and that's how I'll be placing my order next time.
And I will say it would be nice if the person taking orders actually greeted guests versus just asking what we want. A smile and courteousness would have changed my rating for the atmosphere.
But hear what I say... next time. I will be back but making sure I have the correct Philly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI really need to start going to more food trucks. They almost always have the best food.
My wife saw a video on TikTok. One of the guys that works on the truck confidently claimed their Phillies were the best in the world. Seeing as though they aren't in Philly, we had to call their bluff.
I took a nice 25 minute drive to Katy where the truck is located. They closed at 8p and I got there at about 7:40p on a Saturday evening. I ordered 2 original steak phillies, a philly egg roll, and cajun fries. They told me it would be an hour and 10 minute wait... Whew! But I figured if it takes that long, maybe it would be worth it. Luckily, it only took about a half hour.
When I got back home, everything was still hot. Here's a run down:
The Original Philly (Uncle Phil): Bruh. This sandwich is a boss. Perfectly seasoned steak, moist, cheesy, on soft hoagie bread. I never had a Philly in Philly but I'm willing to bet this is really close. The egg roll was pretty good but the green peppers were cut a little too big to fully enjoy it. But still delicious. Cajun fries had a good flavor but probably wouldn't order them again.
All in all, if you are craving an authentic Cheese steak that is done right, this your place. Just don't get surprised if your wait is long.
Tip 1: They have a tap to pay, credit and debit card payment option. Not sure about cash. (It's 2023 anyway, STOP CARRYING CASH!)
Tip 2: There are other food trucks in the area just in case this place runs out.
Tip 3: The phillies come in 3 sizes, Lil Phil, Original...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStopped by to check the hype. The owner talks trash so much on ig I had no choice but to pull up š. Iāll start with the service and atmosphere. 11/10. Really cool down to earth guy in person and extremely polite. One of the greatest parts of Houston. No matter what business you run in this city, if you have good service youāll get far. I think the owner knows this. š«”
Food, 7.5/10. I have to keep it honest. No matter how much I like the place at the end of the day the food is why weāre here right? Letās break it down:
Presentation - it looks amazing. The cheese pulls are epic. Itās sloppy af but still holds together well.
Value - I think for $14 itās on the expensive side but you get a ton of sandwich. One cheesesteak easily fills two. Notice I said āfillā and not feed. Two grown men are getting stuffed on this. Overall, itās a good deal.
Taste - The cheese is flavorful and fresh however the mozzarella makes for chewy experience. I would hold back on the Mozzarella. The cheese definitely overpowers the sandwich to where I couldnāt get a good taste of the steak. Iād like the ratios to be closer to 60/40 meat and cheese but thatās personal preference.
To summarize, Iād like to have a bit more flavor with the steak and less chewy cheese. Love the service and the location so I...
