We visited Tasty Ko which is advertised as a Korean BBQ place but we decided to order Korean dishes instead. The restaurant is very clean and traditional and even the bathroom was spotless though the hand paper towel machine was broken.
We tried the Jjambong, Jjajangmyeon, donkatsu, and seafood pancakes. The seafood pancakes were chewy, fresh, and delicious. The Jjajangmyeon was decent good enough to eat but if you’re expecting authentic Korean Jjajangmyeon, this isn’t it. The donkatsu was a highlight! It was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was flavorful and served in a generous portion. Our whole group loved it.
Unfortunately, the Jjambong was disappointing. While it looked great, the flavors didn’t blend together and felt incomplete as if something was missing. They served us four side dishes but I wasn’t a big fan of their kimchi. It had an overly distinct pepper flake flavor that I didn’t enjoy.
The service, however, was excellent. The staff was very kind and attentive. Overall, this place is good for a non-Korean restaurant. If you’re looking for truly authentic Korean flavors, this...
Read moreThe flavors aren’t as well developed as other Korean restaurants. The staff were friendly. Not super attentive although we were in the last final hour of them being open. The food was fried too long (dumplings and seafood pancake were over friend, and the chicken was definitely too tough due to being over fried and too thick of breading).
one of the soups didn’t have enough salty flavor. And the seafood soon tofu jigae didn’t have that same deep kimchi and flavorful soup base that you can find at other restaurants around Houston.
I ordered the marinated pork belly and it came out cut, fried with onions, garlic and green onions. I had to ask for red lettuce and gochijon (soy bean paste). Some of these pieces were over fried too.
Average place if you’re in Katy and need that Korean fix. If you have other options and time I’d pass on this place and go someplace else.
I provably wouldn’t be back despite the...
Read moreDelicious food and excellent service. Seafood noodle soup had generous amount of seafood, grilled fish, seafood pancake and fried dumplings were equally tasty. Side dishes had good balance of seasoning. The rice drink was a nice refreshing treat after a good meal. My new favorite Korean place to go eat, can't wait to come back to try their other dishes.
Update: went back to visit this restaurant since my first review, seems like some of the dishes quality has been downgraded. Seafood noodle soup and seafood tofu soup is not the same as it used to be. Used to be whole big shrimp with the shell, clam, and other big pieces of seafood, now it's just tiny shrimp and small pieces of other seafood that are easily lost on the soup. Flavor wise, it's still the same. I understand It could be due to the seafood inflation and food shortage due to the pandemic. Service still remains top notch, very friendly and...
