I really wanted to like this place. Friendly and clean restaurant. However, the food is NOT authentic Thai at all. It’s very Americanized. Ordered the drunken noodles. There was broccoli in the drunken noodles. Thai cuisine in general doesn’t use broccoli in any of their dishes. Instead of Thai basil in the dish, they used the holy basil, which is normally used for pad krapao, not drunken noodles so the flavors were off. There were also bamboo in the noodle dish which drunken noodles don’t normally have. I also ordered the Tom kah and sadly, it tasted like they just poured a can of coconut milk in a bowl and added bell peppers, sliced zucchini, broccoli and onions. Again, broccoli or zucchini does not belong in an authentic Tom kah soup. I couldn’t taste any of the herbs that traditionally is famous for the soup - kaffir lime leaves, galanga, and lemon grass. There were no mushrooms either. Just lots of uncooked broccoli, uncooked zucchini, uncooked bell peppers and uncooked onions. I had to ask for some chili peppers to help give the soup some flavor. We got their fried chicken and it was just basic. The guests next to us ordered pad thai and they also had broccoli in pad thai. So after my observation, I’ve realized the restaurant uses all the same vegetables in every dish. Broccoli does not belong in pad Thai either. Most of the folks that enjoys eating there either never had real Thai food before or are not familiar with authentic Thai food. Sweet staff but the very Americanized food...

After being so impressed with the Lihue location, we were excited to find they had a location closer to our hotel in Kapaa. Unfortunately, all the tables were full of folks that had menus and were waiting to have their order taken. We were set on eating the food so we decided to just place an order to go.

It took a few minutes for anyone to acknowledge us because they were so busy. Most of the workers just kind of ignored us but they only had one server working the floor. All good, we just waited awhile.

We knew we both wanted the red curry and sushi rolls so we ordered tons of food to make sure we had yummy leftovers. We ordered Red Curry with Beef and Red Curry with Crispy Pork Belly. My boyfriend ordered the Monster Dunburi again and a J On Fire Roll. I also ordered a My Hero Roll. I think they said it was going to take about 35 minutes so I set a timer and we headed over to the grocery store next door to kill time.

When we came back 35 minutes later, most of the tables had cleared up but we're still waiting to be bussed. We had to wait another 20 minutes or so. There was a moment when my BF said he thought they told him to sit but there was a bag on one of the chairs. We stayed standing. The server finally removed the bag so we could both sit(guess it was hers or belonged to one of the other workers.)

Someone else from the back of the house ended up bringing out our food with a smile. Everything was delicious.

Big Monster Sushi & Thai in the Kapaa Shopping Center is an absolute gem! The menu is a perfect blend of sushi and Thai cuisine, offering a wide variety of dishes that cater to all tastes. The sushi is incredibly fresh, with each piece crafted to perfection. The Thai dishes are equally impressive, bursting with authentic flavors that transport you straight to Thailand. What truly sets Big Monster apart is the exceptional service. The staff is friendly, attentive, and always ready to make your dining experience special. Whether you're a sushi aficionado or a Thai food lover, you'll find something to delight your palate. Don't miss out on this hidden gem in Kapaa. Big Monster Sushi & Thai is a must-visit for anyone looking for a fantastic meal on Kauai. You'll leave with a full stomach and a big smile, eager to return for more.

They do have other locations around Kauai as well as a Food Truck - it is well worth...

My girlfriend and I had an amazing experience here! We started with the Monster Poke Bowl as an appetizer, and it was incredibly fresh and flavorful—definitely a must-try. For our mains, we ordered the Crispy Ono Curry and the Pad See Ew with shrimp. Both dishes were absolutely delicious, packed with flavor, and very reasonably priced for the island. The service was excellent—our server was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed without feeling rushed. The portion sizes were generous, and the overall experience was fantastic. We’ll definitely be coming back!

I took my sister here for lunch cause it was right down the road from our house. We usually go to the other locations so this was our first time at this one. We were immediately seated and able to order within a reasonable time. I loved the soft shell crab bun and the thai tea. My sister loved her noodles and the sushi was pretty good too, it could’ve been a bit more spicy but that’s just a personal preference. I would definitely recommend trying this place out if you’re in a the area and looking for a something laid back and affordable.
