Let's face it...good grindz are hard to come by on Kauai. Most places don't care about the quality of their food since they know the tourists will pay (overpay) for it anyways. Well, Hanalei Taro and Smoothie breaks that mold by serving delicious food at a fair price. The lau lau pork was fantastic...succulent and savory. The kalua pork was nice and smokey. The taro mochi had a subtle sweetness. The sides were a perfect foil to the pork. And the price is right....downright a steal compared to all the restaurants around. I took another lau lau plate home with me so I could have it again for dinner. The hours are a little different, usually from 10AM to 3PM Monday through Thursday...then they move someplace else. Don't miss it!
Plus only 30 feet away is Wishing Well Shave Ice...the BEST shave...

This is a beautiful setting across the street from the Hanalei mountains run by amazing Local woman with food sourced from her family farm. The Kalua lunch plate is nothing short of the best I've had on any of the islands can and the poi is nothing like you get at a luau or Costco. I've been scared to try for a again for years but she had a sampler for a dollar fifty that was actually very good. This is worth a stop every time you are in...
Read moreI love taro! They had a couple cool taro dishes available like a taro burger. However, I wanted to try some Kauai pork and got the sandwich, #6. We had 5 people order various items and there was a rush that came after us so I understand the confusion, but they got my order wrong. Fortunately they fixed it right away and the food waa AMAZING, I really love that sandwich! It was a perfect lunch right before we went kayaking. :) I packed half the sandwich for later and then forgot to take it after kayaking so that part is really sad. All that means is I'll have to come back to eat another sandwich...
