This place was so great I am reviewing it as I sit here at the bar. The food is amazing, the drinks are amazing and the staff is out of this world (shout out to Becca and Claire for being absolutely incredible, funny, kind and just all around perfect). The prices are reasonable for what you get.
For food, I ordered the steak tips for dinner and they melted in my mouth, absolutely devine. My fiance ordered the burger and devoured it, she loved it so much. Every single but of food that graced our mouths was perfect. The vibe is so nice, there's ambient lighting and it really feels like stepping into the 1920's.
For drinks, I got "the drink with no name" and the espresso martini. The drink with no name is truly one of the best cocktails I've ever had, I would.come back for that alone. The espresso martini was smooth and delicious, left you craving more and was garnished with three little espresso beans which was beyond adorable.
On top of that, the other patrons I engaged with were incredibly kind, funny and just all around a great crowd to be around (minus a group of people with abhorrent, unintelligent politics- but they actually paved the way for me to start talking with other bargoers!). I'm not usually very social at bars, but I couldn't help but want to engage with the people around me, it had a very group atmosphere.
Basically, I had an incredible time here and definitely plan to come again soon! After long , rough day being yelled at at work, this was exactly what I needed to unwind. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a good place to grab a drink, a bite to eat and a fantastic group of people. Again, thank you to Claire and Becca for just being all around remarkable and making for an...
Read moreI deeply appreciate the effort and process that goes into any great experience. While there are plenty of fantastic bars/restaurants in downtown Keene, Sole's delivered the best experience my wife and I have encountered at ANY bar/restaurant.
I love history... and have never been to a "speak easy." Don't let the awkward payphone or locked door (the peep slider is a great touch) stop you from missing out on the best cocktails in the Monadnock region. While we just decided to enjoy the charcuterie board and drinks last night, we are already ready to head back for dinner.
Some may find prices elevated, but you get what you pay for! The whole place is themed and decked out in turn of the century flair, highlighting the original architecture of the building. Upon walking into the "living room" it just screamed cozy with couches and coffee tables (they also have traditional seating, but you get that everywhere else.)
It's crystal clear that even the staff cares about this place, and they had also shared with us their fantastic experiences with their ownership. The service was top notch! They also came with a solid knowledge of mixology and how to appreciate it. Too many other places I've been head straight for the "sugar." Get "The Drink With No Name."
Pick up the pay phone and ask for a pair of shoes for the crew you're rolling with and enjoy the best...
Read moreI had really high hopes for this place because of the great reviews and cool atmosphere. I don't ever leave reviews but I was shocked to find such positive reviews of the food here and I had to share my own experience.
We ordered the chicken marsala and the veggie burger with a gluten free bun. The chicken marsala ($25!) was basically a chicken breast with some mashed potatoes and some gravy, and the side vegetables were 4 chunks of carrot that were undercooked, tough and nearly inedible. Plus two sad little brussell sprout leaves - not even a full brussell sprout :(
The veggie burger ($15, + 50c for onions and $1 for gf bun) was literally a thin reheated frozen burger patty from the supermarket (I buy them all the time, I could recognize these anywhere). The burger only comes with lettuce and tomato, anything else costs extra, and the onions I paid extra for were pretty tasteless too.
For drinks, we ordered a glass of wine (it was good!) and a N/A beverage - $7 for what tasted like straight up pineapple juice.
I would definitely give 5 stars for the service and atmosphere, but the food was disappointing and I couldn't believe we paid nearly $45 for a chicken breast and a store-bought veggie patty (not even including the drinks). I might come here again for 1 drink, maybe an appetizer or something with it, but I would never order a full...
