Dos Croquetas...talk about 1 CROQUETA! SMDH!
I highly anticipated coming to check this place out especially after their amazing reviews, perrroo que disappointment! Don't get me wrong it has potential to be better if they UP their CROQUTA GAME. I have to give them credit where credit is due. The place it decorated super cute and very clean. The staff member was sweet and helpful. The place is small, but comfortable. If you're a picture person you definitely have plenty of photo opportunities. Totally Picture Perfect! All their specialty croquetas I tasted were yummy (305, Mexican Street Corn, Buffalo Crack Chicken, and Mac & Cheese Bacon).
CONS: The parking is small and it can be a bit stressful. The cost is on the higher end ($2.25 for each croqueta) and it is true what some reviews stated for the cost you can get some bad @$$ croquetas from Isla Canarias for cheaper. But I'm a very understanding person and look at the whole picture. I know these are specialty croquetas and put together in their unique way as their entrée "areparada". You can't go to Isla Canarias to get the 305 croqueta or the areparada. NOW with all that being said my strongest issue is that they're cheap on their croqueta. Being that it's the only protein source I don't mind paying a little more, but put 2 croquetas and don't give me that "our croquetas are bigger". I'm sorry guys, but when I opened both areparada and toston preparada you can visually see half of it missing a croqueta. My friend and I were sharing everything cause we wanted to get a taste of their whole menu so we had to cut it in a way we both got half of the croqueta in our halves. Also, the croq n' tots are good too, but again only 1 croqueta where it's visually noticeable & seems like you're just having tots; it needed 2 croquetas as well. To add on for dessert we had the oreo shake $7.99 yes it's tasteful, but not $7.99 worthy - there was no "wow factor". Come on Dos Croquetas your shakes are even more expensive than Jaxson's Ice Cream Parlour & Restaurant ($7.50) and Swensen's ($4.50-$5.60) and they do have the "wow factor". The total cost my friend and I paid with tip was $50 (croq n' tots, areparada, toston preparada, oreo shake and the guava cinnamon toast crunch).
Let me tell you something: Dos croquetas is 1 croqueta short of a full croqueta preparada. I get it that the name is due to the fact you can never order just 1 croqueta, but it's lacking it on their entrees. If there's a next time I'll order an additional croqueta so it can be done right even if I have to pay more & won't get a shake. I can't stress this enough I can totally overlook the cost if it came with Dos Croquetas if not then lower...
Read moreThe food is good. Nothing out of this world good but definitely above average. They have innovation in the area of menu items which is a huge plus, but as a Cuban myself, I have yet to try a better Croqueta than the ones from islas canaries and that statement still stands until this day. I went to dos Croquetas in the heyday when they were still operating from a warehouse door, with really hard to work with hours. Going there turned into one of those achievements (ohh they are open today, let's go try them out) moments. It took me 3 attempts to be able to buy from them and when I finally did, I wasn't really blown away which made me a bit sad. I had 5 different ones including a dessert one and none were something to write home about. Event the coveted mac and cheese croqueta was lacking in flavor (or salt?). Then the bill came and the 5 Croqueta were a total of $13. You won't get away with that anywhere here in Miami for a croqueta but since it was a startup, I gave my support and was on with the rest of my day. From that moment forward, I always had the same opinion of the place. The food was good but nowhere near worth the price. Fast forward till today, my co worker urged me to try the new permanent location in bird road, and they have changed and promised the food was better than the warehouse days. He personally recommend the "Colada Shake". On the way home I from work I passed by rather late and my first thought was "ohh wow they are still open even at this time". I park on the side and proceed to order just the shake. They didn't specify sizes, and then came the charge. $9 for a shake. I was blown away. My mind was running a marathon on what would justify this Miami Beach, Youth fair, amusement park level price, you could get the niche bubble beer from universal for cheaper. I was expecting to get a over the top artisanal shake in a fancy cup. What I instead got was a Starbucks Tall sized shake with a boba tea straw shoved into the shake shack styled cup. My first thought was "$9 for this." That's a rough first impression. I went and tried the shake and was good. Not $9 good, more like $5.75 good, but good nonetheless. But brings me back to the reason why I won't come back to this place. I can't condone or promote getting violated for goods and services, and this place unfortunately falls in the that category. I can't recommend this place with a clear conscious to friends or family. In the bright side, they are putting that money to good use by making the...
Read moreI was quite disappointed with the croquettes!!! I ordered two croquettes: Chicken & Ham [thank God I did not ordered 10 as I was planning]. When I got in the car and took one bite, I regreted-it 100%: I threw them away; it did not even called my Dogs attention [see attached pictures], and two for $4.65-NOT worth a penny. The 🐔 croquette had too much pepper, white and dark meat instead of white only [the correct way] and not enough 🐔 The ham was worse-cheap ham. Mind you, I specifically told the Manager (I believe owner) that I did not want to buy them if the bechamel mixture had more flour than chicken or ham, and to please light golden fry them. Well they use a cheap oil and burnt. When I said: "There too dark," she replied: "The reason is that they were frozen, and that's the reason why there not golden and darker." Now ask yourself: Why would they be frozen? If they sell them fresh, than why would she cook frozen croquettes? Does this mean they typically serve croquettes that were already fried? If I was the owner, I would have given the money back and say hope to see you again or just refund the money and throw them away [worse case], but as most businesses in Miami, is about the fast buck and forget customer service. She said once you taste them you'll be back: NEVER. The other reviews have to be fake, or people in Miami only know to compare them to Caserita. The smile went out the window when she didn't show business ethics. I will continue going to Versailles Bakery on SW 8th St., white meat & golden fried [there ham not recommended]. Last, the music too loud it was like a club. If this business survives over 2 years, than Miami is number one for...
