Don Alex Restaurant — Restaurant in Kenilworth

I have been going to this Don Alex (Kenilworth) almost every week for years. 15 years ago, I was introduced to Don Alex in Garwood, which was primarily a takeout establishment with a couple tables until it closed, but since that point have been a loyal customer to the restaurant, regardless of which location I went to. Also went to the Union location a number of times over the years until that closed as well. I have no idea why these other locations have closed. But the food has always been delicious, and my family gets the same thing every time and we just love it. If you like chicken, or I should say even if you don't like chicken, you will love Don Alex's rotisserie chicken! *Update- 2/16/25: Another stellar meal at Don Alex. The tostones crisp, maduros perfect, rice perfectly seasoned, habichuelas spiced except the way they've always done them, papas a la huancaina excellent, with perfect texture, salchipapas as good as always, chicha morada delicious, the green sauce warmed the soul, and excellent service! Another thing- I've noticed a number of low ratings with like 1 sentence (no descriptive reasons). I think these people are scammers. I have had sometimes experienced odd things like the credit card machine being down or being out of green sauce, or the maduros are a little overripe. But over the course of 15 years, I know the food I'm getting is for the most part consistent, reasonably priced, and delicious. That's my take on Don Alex, going all the way back to my first order placed around the time my oldest son turned 1 year old...

Why my Peruvian folks be so rude that work at Peruvian Restaurants....

I go on Google to search Don Alex in Kenilworth look over their menu... I see some lomo saltado at 14.99 pretty fair....so I call in .... I pick up my order and they tell me it's $22 n change ... I'm like.... uhhhhh there's a different price on Google ...they do this 👀👀👀👀.... I'm there standing waiting for an explanation ....and they go right to the next customer.... So I go again why do you have a different price listed on Google...when all the information is on there..... She goes idk a few people been telling us about it but the price is $22 and change ..... I SMH and I just pay....but they had the only RBF and their communication skills is terrible.... So Don Alex you better update your Google stuff before people call the better business bureau...for false...

This restaurant seemed like a nice place to take your family. I wanted the chicken and was told they were out of chicken. I was disappointed because I heard the chicken was excellent so hesitantly I ordered the fried fish platter. It was over fried and horrible!! I told the waitress I was not happy. Then I noticed the table across from me did indeed have chicken. Hey! Do you have the chicken or not?! When I bought it to the attention of the waitress, who by the way spoke little English, she said I could order the chicken with rice and salad. Perfect! I enjoyed it very much. However, they still charged for the dried up over fried fish!! The waiter said because I tasted it I needed to pay for it. How would I know if I liked it if I didn't taste it!! I paid reluctantly but they will never have to worry about me coming here again....
