This was my first visit here, and it was for breakfast with my mother. I've driven past this place hundreds of times, and finally decided to give them a shot. They always seem to keep the outside landscaping so beautiful and inviting. This is where the story begins. The restaurant interior needs a complete make-over, complete with soundproofing installed. The restaurant was busy, and was soo loud inside that everybody had to yell at each other at the very top of their lungs for the wait staff to hear them speaking. If you want to have a conversation at your table, you can forget that, you cannot even here yourself speaking. The food was just average for a breakfast, surely nothing exciting or out of the ordinary. Here's is where it gets worse, if that's even possible. The owner is at the register, and I handed him my credit card and he responds by saying we do-not accept those here. I said to him, excuse me Sir? He responds, we are cash only, everybody knows this here. I replied, how would I know this, he says, we have been doing business like this for over thirty years. I said, well that's wonderful, but you should have that listed in BOLD on the front door of your restaurant so that people are aware of this before they come inside to eat and find out later they are unable to pay for the food they just ate at your restaurant. He responds, there is a bank across the street, and you can go there and use the ATM. I emphasised the fact to him, this is ridiculous that a restaurant in the year of 2018 does not except credit or debit card, is quite absurd. I don't care if he thinks it's ok that I should've known this, the simple fact is, I did not know this, and I should not have been spoken to in that time of voice or manner. It's your responsibility to make your customers aware of your companies policies, and not make them feel guilty for not knowing this ridiculous policy in the very first place. Fortunately, I happen to have cash on me which I seldom do, otherwise I was going to have to drive to the bank across the street and remove money from an ATM machine, pay there ATM usage fees, and then drive back to pay my bill. How crazy is this? My recommendations are a complete remodel inside, with major soundproofing installed, and sign up with your business banking institution to accept credit and debit cards ASAP. Have a...
Read moreWe came here on the recommendation that they had the best meatloaf. We came to find out that they do not have meatloaf on the menu because they don't serve dinner anymore. That however, is not the reason for the low rating. There were multiple issues with our meals. Starting off with soup - I and another person in our party ordered their mushroom soup. It came and it was barely lukewarm and very thick and gloppy. We had to send it back. When it came back it was piping hot, in fact it was so hot we couldn't eat it for a while. It was literally bubbling so I'm sure that it was microwaved. Two people in our party got the lunch special of baked macaroni and cheese. It was described as having a buttery crumb topping. When it came there was no crumb topping and it was very apparent that it was not baked. Also the cheese used tasted very much like plain American cheese. Another person in a party got a hamburger, which they only ate half of. I got the roasted beet salad, which sounded very good - roasted beets, strawberries, walnuts, goat cheese, and arugula with a strawberry balsamic dressing. When it came it looked appealing but when I tasted it the beets were just a step above canned beets, they were sliced in rounds and the dressing which was billed as a strawberry balsamic, was not very flavorful and also not very much of it. When our meals came out they were delivered by food runners who had no idea who was to get what dish. So they did what somebody dubbed "the meal auction." Our main waiter (The one that took our order and brought drink refills) had no idea that we had to send our soup back. There were seven of us in our dining party and I believe five of us were dissatisfied with our meals. The two that weren't had breakfast items so maybe this place is good for breakfast but I definitely would not recommend...
Read moreThis review is for the newly rebuilt Hank's Place in Chadds Ford. For the past 5 years, they have been located in Kennett Square during this construction, and I've eaten there several times and was never impressed. So I thought I'd try their new restaurant, with the same staff. I ordered what was listed on the menu as "traditional French toast." I expected two pieces of white bread sliced in half, but what came out on the plate was 4 tiny oblong pieces of bread, like Italian or French, with absolutely nothing on top. It was just toast. It didn't appear to have been cooked in egg, cinnamon, or vanilla extract. I asked the server to bring out some butter, powdered sugar, and syrup! By the time she arrived with that, the four little pieces of bread were cold. It was awful. Not only did I let the server know, but I also let the owner know when I paid at the cash register. She barely looked at me or even apologized. So I will never be eating at this restaurant again! Others at my table ordered the Reuben sandwich, which came on very small bread with just one piece of beef on it. They were disappointed also. This was on a Sunday morning; we arrived at 11:30 and waited over 35 minutes in line to get inside. It was chaotic and extremely loud. The acoustics in the building are terrible. We had to yell at our server so she could hear us, and we had to yell at each other just to talk. I run a meetup group and we eat together at different restaurants two or three times a week, and I have never had a problem with any of them. This is a first for me! If we hadn't waited so long, and I hadn't been hungry, I would have sent the meal back and ask for...
