My rating is not based off the food but the service. I called to make a reservation on August 12th 2025 at 6:28 pm, for the following week thursday. When I asked the person who I spoke with they told me if it was for two people they can squeeze me in no problem. I said okay perfect. I knew it was going to be a busy day that day due to kennett offering outside dining that day. Third thursday. I called Aug 18th around 5 pm, spoke with Sam ( who I believe is the owner or manager). When I spoke with him I started by saying I was calling about a reservation and how I had called previously and the person who i spoke with told me I could do a walk in no problem, I told him how I wanted to make sure I was getting the correct info due to me knowing it was going to be a busy day and I really wanted to eat here. Well… He started to immediately raise his voice at me and told me how no one who works there would ever tell me that and that I was wrong and plus they are already booked that day. I responded and said okay well someone I spoke with told me that information I have on my history calls the time I called previously and that i could provide that information to him so he could figure out who told me this ( not understanding why he felt like he needed to yell I was not asking to be squeezed in just trying to make a reservation) . He then continued to yell and tell me that he did not care or need this information that what time did I want to go. I told him it did not matter and to book me whenever they had time because I was sure it was all just a misunderstanding. He proceeded to yell and tell me he did not understand and to slow down for my information. At this point I did not want to even book solely because if this was the service that was given making a reservation I can only imagine the service there while dining. I understand how stressful it can be but also kindness is free. I was so excited to try this restaurant but after this experience will not try or recommend, if you do go however ,make sure to ask for names because if you call again they'll act like you made a...
Read moreThe atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice overall. A bit dated within the dining room and a bit more inviting in the bar dining area. Clean, comfortable and quaint.
The appetizer was the mushroom gratin. It was full of flavor and crisp where it should be and creamy otherwise. I would strongly recommend.
The dipping oil was sub par. The olive oil did not impress me as being a top quality, cold pressed oil because it had a slightly "processed" aftertaste that I have experienced with lesser brand olive oils.
The bread was above average, firm on the outside and warm and soft on the inside, just as it should be. A nice flavor.
My main dish was Pappardelle Bolognese with a ricotta topping. The dish was pleasant overall but the Bolognese ragu was not as flavorful as I hoped for.
It is as if the chef is attempting to play it too safe regarding the spicing of the Bolognese. I would not refer to it as "bland" because it was not. However, I would refer to it as needing an upgrade, as something is just not taking it to the next level or setting it apart from the average Bolognese.
I was left simply satisfied with the main course.
I followed up with the cannoli dessert and coffee (typical weak Lavazza) The cannoli was above average but I believe it to be outsourced. Very firm outside, not flimsy. The filling was pleasantly sweet bit not teeth hurting sweet... It was spot on. The filling is fairly heavy.
My wife had the Pan Seared Scallops with risotto. Though I did not sample her meal, her comments were that the risotto was over salted. That is coming from a cook that likes to use salt so take that comment for what it is worth.
She additionally commented that she believed that the scallops were salted or took on the flavoring of the risotto.
Overall, we were not disappointed, nor was impressed and I doubt that I will be adding La Verona to my "must go" restaurants until there are a few refinements.
The staff is very friendly and...
Read moreWe had a reservation on Saturday , September 10 at 6 PM. When we arrived to the area, we found out that the Mushroom Festival was happening (we were from out of town and were not aware of this). What we didn't realize was that there would be a reduced menu. There was no mention of this on the website nor when we booked the reservation. Our server, Sarah, brought us over the cocktail menu and we ordered drinks and then our appetizer and dinner. We did not receive bread, though all the other tables around us did. The drinks were good (Paloma and Moscow Mule) and the appetizer (Tomato bruschetta) was too. One dinner arrived first, which ended up being incorrect, and then the second dinner arrived shortly after. We ended up eating what was given to us due to the busy nature of the restaurant. When the bill came, we noticed the bill reflected the originally ordered dish (veal marsala) vs. what we actually received (chicken marsala). The price difference wasn't all that significant, just a few bucks, so we didn't fuss and paid with a credit card leaving a 20% tip. We said thank you and left. When we checked our credit card bill the next day, we found that the tip amount was 10 dollars more than we had left. When we left the tip, our bill was $91; on our credit card statement showed that the tip was $25.20 instead of $15.20 on our $75.80 bill, which brought our bill to $101. The tip amount $15.20, was clearly written along with the total of $91 clearly written. While $10 is not significant in the grand scheme of things, it does make a difference on a bill that is under $100 after already generously tipping 20% in spite of all...
