We were wrapping up a 14-day, 580-mile cycling trip and cruising into Chicago when hunger hit hard. It was around lunchtime, and my girlfriend needed a bathroom break—so I made the practical call to stop at Marco’s Pizza since we were riding right past it. I figured quick, easy, and no fuss. Boy, was I off.
GF went in ahead of me while I locked the bikes. Turns out, they gave her a hard time about using the bathroom, even though we were clearly planning to buy food. Not a great first impression, and honestly—unnecessary.
When I walked in, the welcome was… lukewarm at best. The woman working was fine, but her coworker—the one with the long hair—seemed to be on another planet entirely. Zero enthusiasm. Just a dull, “let’s get this over with” kind of energy.
I ordered a personal pizza with two toppings and a 2-liter of Pepsi. The long-haired dude didn’t even hand me the soda—just kind of grunted and flailed in the direction of the cooler like I was supposed to read his mind and serve myself. Alright, fine. I grab the bottle, but then just… stand there. Waiting. Glancing between my phone and the employees for some sign of what to do next.
After five awkward minutes, the lady finally says, “I’ll be with you in a moment.” Cool. I politely ask if I can get two cups for the Pepsi I just bought. She gives them to me, no problem. But the whole vibe in there was just off. Kind of cold, kind of apathetic.
While we were waiting for our pizza, another customer came in to pick up a catering order. Long-haired guy casually told him they had accidentally made bone-in wings instead of boneless. The customer was like, “Yeah, that’s fine for me, but my wife wants boneless.” And the employee still hesitated to fix it, like he really didn’t want to do his job. The guy ended up having to wait around for a fresh batch of wings while the rest of his food got cold.
Now, I get that it was the 4th of July and maybe morale was low. Maybe folks didn’t want to be working. I get it. But even taking that into account, the whole experience just felt indifferent and borderline lazy.
To their credit: ✅ The pizza was good. ✅ The woman at the counter tried.
But honestly, the bad service overshadowed the good food. When you’re running a business—especially a food spot where people are often looking for a little comfort and friendliness—it’s not hard to just be decent to customers.
Won’t be stopping here again, but hey, maybe we just caught them...
Read moreZERO STARS!! If you want your pizza barely cooked and delivered at least 30 minutes late then by all means please order from this location. I placed a catering order to be delivered at 11:30am. Well at 11:45am I called the store and was told my order was just leaving out the door. I asked why had she not bothered to at least notify the customer of the delayed order. She stated she was by herself and hadn't noticed that it was after 11:30am. Our order finally arrived about 12:10pm missing all 6 of the 2 liters of soda -mind you this order was for plant workers who's lunch break was at 11:30am. The gm or some supervisor calls me to apologize and offer a credit. I let him know I didn't want a credit I wanted a refund of the sodas we never received and that now this is the 2nd catering order in less than a week that arrives late.He then stated he wasn't sure if he could do a partcial refund and he'd have to get back to me. Well that was on 6/3/25 and still...
Read moreWhile there are seats inside the store, Marco's is definitely more of a take home pizza place than a dine-in restaurant. Unsurprising, considering their strong link with Family Video. The convenient pizza window inside the video store is a constant temptation to those who frequent- unsurprising, considering the food at Marco's is quality.
The house-made dough is always delicious, and the ingredient portions are generous. This is the ONLY pizza place where I'll order Italian sausage on a pizza- most other franchise sausage is too greasy and lacks flavor. I'm also a big fan of the subs, especially the Italiano.
They aren't as cheap as, say, Pizza Hut, but they do offer deals, and the few extra dollars are more than worth it. I only wish they had a few more sides to offer- I'm not a big fan of bread sticks, and theirs are no exception.
As far as chain pizza places go, Marco's is the best...
