Great Salsa flavor & above average. Go early before the crowd if acoustics are important or you wear a hearing aid. This puppy echos with reverb. I sat at the bar to eat when I saw it was crowded thinking: "a quick bite?..quick service." NOT! After 17 minutes I stopped a manager for a drink order and menu. The poor bartender was working alone for the entire crowded restaurant, and kept having to read his cheat sheet recipes for making the drinks. At less than 5 feet from me he wouldn't even make eye contact. I had to stop another server in another 12 minutes or so to order just the soup in an effort to feed myself for the first time that busy day and keep it simple for these over taxed servers. After 10 minutes more I stopped the service person again to ask how the soup was coming along? He replied: "Oh yeah. The kitchen said they have to charge you $3.00 more because they only serve that at lunch. Their Internet menu did not disclose that! The soup was what I was looking for on the Internet in the 1st place & since. Since it was already a $10.00 soup, $13 bucks wasn't worth the chance on a restaurant I'd never eaten at before in this regularly traveled city, so I opted on a chicken enchilada to-go, & headed back to my hotel. It was cold, but some of that was my fault since I'd driven a little further just for the soup I'd read about on their on line menu. Normally, I'd try again during a slower time like mid afternoon, but the demand for an extra 3.00 bucks for an already pricey soup will take some time so I can pout about...
Read moreMexican soul food!!! My husband and I have been regular visitors at Agaves since early this year. Each time we are there, all we keep saying is "This is really good!!!" The salsa & chips are outstanding. It is a puree-type salsa that tastes wonderfully fresh and has just the right amount of heat. The chips are fresh and not salty. It is obvious the margaritas are made with fresh-squeezed lime juice. They are perfectly refreshing and a medium is just the right size to get you thru the meal. My husband always gets the steak fajitas and is never disappointed. I keep wanting to try other things on the menu, but love the enchiladas verdes with ground beef so much, I have ordered them on every visit. We ask for more salsa when our meals arrive and pour it all over our food, too!!! Make sure you have more salsa & chips added to your tab for take-home... because you'll be craving for it that evening or the next. So nice to have this wonderful restaurant in our...
Read moreHave not been to this restaurant in a couple of years. Food was good, portions great. Was dining in around 5pm and ordered steak/shrimp fajitas. Ordered a large draft beer with the expectation of some sort of “happy hour price”…although I didn’t ask for any happy hour specials…non were offered. I paid 7.50 per beer when the check came. I had chatted with our server during the meal…ordered jalapeño vs bell pepper in the fajita meal…then asked for more as only a couple pieces of jalapeño were present in the meal. I was up charged 3$ for the jalapeños…no big deal. The draft beer charge $15 for 2 big beers was stupid. Although large…draft beer doesn’t cost that. Without offering a “happy hour” special seemed bad. Disappointed in the discussion with the server after I paid the bill and left a $20 tip. Asking about a beer special…he stated the smaller size draft was on special. Bad...
