Prissy Polly’s is cute and homey with a lot of wood interior, and is heavily decorated with southern sentimentality (please see additional note at the end of this review). You order at the counter. They had a couple of sample plates on display, and the food looked delicious! The young lady at the counter was patient, kind, and helpful. I ordered a large array of things. The price was very reasonable. So much potential here! Will the food live up to my expectations? No. Let’s break it down: BBQ (Lexington style): I liked it ok. No smoke. Had more sauce in it than any Lexington style I’ve had heretofore. One recent reviewer said this is because “they don’t know what Lexington style BBQ is”. I don’t know WHAT to make of it. BBQ (eastern style): tasted like unseasoned broiled pork doused with vinegar Collards: the most bitter I ever et. Devoid of seasoning. Good collards need to be cooked in a smoked meat for fat and flavor. There was none. Baked beans: not bad. About average. Sweet slaw: bland and uninspired. BBQ slaw: the most tame I’ve ever had. Hushpuppies: competent. They were in rings and were good. Potato salad: taste was actually good, but the gloppy, sticky, tacky texture nearly induced a gag reflex. No food should have this texture. Certainly I can’t think of one. The only thing I ever ate that comes close to that texture is that time in kindergarten when Kenny Alexandrow and I dared each other to eat paste. We did. Another time was when my orthodontist, Dr. Marks, smeared plaster on the roof of my mouth to get a mold of my orthodontic anomalies. It, too, had a similar texture to whatever was going on with that potato salad. I didn’t eat the plaster, by the way. The coup de grâce that makes PP’s a two star rating is the filthy knife I was given. See photo. This is inexcusable. One additional note: PP’s is heavily adorned with decorative signs that are unabashedly southern and noticeably conservative. While not overtly political in any way, the signs make it clear that this establishment has some opinions typically associated with right wing ideology. If you are an uber-liberal, you may be put out by some of the signage. Just letting you know.

My visit to Prissy Polly's BBQ was one of the most memorable and enjoyable dining experiences I've had in a while. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm Southern hospitality and a cozy, down-home atmosphere that immediately made us feel welcome. The restaurant was clean, charming, and had that comforting feel of a family-owned gem. The food? Absolutely delicious. I had a generous plate of their classic BBQ, and every bite was packed with flavor. The meat was tender, smoky, and cooked just right — no frills, just simple, honest Southern cooking done to perfection. The sides were equally satisfying, and everything tasted homemade. To top it all off, we were lucky enough to catch a live bluegrass band performing. It wasn’t just background music — it felt like a full concert. We ended up staying for two hours just enjoying the music, the atmosphere, and the great company. It really added a unique and joyful touch to the evening. The service was friendly and efficient, with staff checking on us regularly without ever being intrusive. Prices were very reasonable for the portion sizes and quality. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Prissy Polly's is a must-visit. It's the perfect place to enjoy fantastic food and an authentic Southern experience.

Another visit had the Catfish very good good service Prissy Polly's BBQ counter service no wait staff. Look at the menu before you go there is alot to look at and they don't just have BBQ. It left me a little confused there was so much. What I didn't like it was only counter service for dine in. I asked if the food was brought out and I was told yes, then I figured out no they call the number on your receipt. Maybe they misunderstood the question?. All drinks condiments are self serve and for BBQ you only get a napkin that's included in a cafeteria style utensil package? (Ughh) thier are no napkins on the counter well unless you ask and if they aren't busy helping or doing something else. The table was sticky (Ughh) . What I did like I ordered a combo plate Catfish, pork with cabbage and baked beans. The Catfish was excellent hot and a crisp batter very tasty. The cabbage was fork tender and the hushpuppies were hot fresh and really tasty. I overall enjoyed my visit here the food was really good. I would recommend to look through the menu before ordering it was confusing to me.

We made a point of going to Prissy Polly’s tonight to hear the Tar Heel Traveler’s. We’ve gone to listen to them each time they’ve played there for the past couple of years. Tonight we went in, got the last table and then we were rudely told to move as that table was reserved for someone else. All the times we’ve come to listen to the music, we have sat down at a table and then one of us goes and orders food. We’ve never been asked to give up our table and wait for one to become available. The owner(?)/manager(?) told us we were supposed to see him about a table when we got there. No where was this posted for us to see when we came in. There was no one standing at the door telling us this. It caught us completely off guard. How is anyone supposed to know this if it isn’t mentioned anywhere and the fella who says he’s in charge is nowhere to be found? I asked him when they started doing this and he could not or would not give me a straight answer. As much as we looked forward to the music, we left and we will not be back.

The food is hit or miss. Sometimes it’s good, other times sub-par. My husband ordered Brunswick Stew on one occasion and it was sour. He called and they told him to bring it back and they would replace it. Sure! With more soured stew! Two wasted trips from Winston-Salem! Their bbq isn’t worth wasting your money on. Go to Clark’s right down the road if you’re looking for good bbq. We won’t be going back to Prissy Polly’s, they are a “miss” on our “hit or miss” list of restaurants. Oh, and we had a fantastic dinner at Clark’s!

One more thing, pretty sure they were over capacity. Kernersville Fire Department should keep an eye on them. Very unsafe conditions, just a tragedy waiting to happen and the food’s a big enough tragedy already. ...

We just spent over $80 in this establishment, and the food was not appealing or up to par, at all. It’s been a while since we’ve eaten here and wanted to take my Son out for food to a place he’s never been (he lives in New Orleans), and I don’t think we will be back here for a very long time. The food that we remembered getting from this place wasn’t even close to how it was today. The mac n cheese bites were either severely over cooked, or the oil needed to be changed a few weeks ago bc the bites, hush puppies, and onions were not edible at all, and there was so much grease at the bottoms of our plates it just made the fried food soggy. The only thing good was the Eastern BBQ plate and sandwich, and the banana pudding. The Mac bites, onion rings, new quesadillas and hushpuppies you simply couldn’t eat them. The sides of regular Mac and cheese were just ok…..not sure what happened to this place, but it’s not anywhere close to what it use to be. Me and my wife are both GM’s of Corporate restaurants, and would have never sent out friend food that looked or was cooked like that. We aren’t trying to get anything free, nor do we want it from here. Just thought that whoever is running shifts as a MoD, KM, or owned it should keep a better look on how the food leaves the kitchen. The only outstanding part about this experience was the sweet young lady that took our order and cared for us while we were eating. Super friendly and enthusiastic, knew the menu very well, and also tried to recommend things to my son that’s never been...
