I went home this past weekend and haven't been to taco casa in years. We used to hang out here after football games in high school and they were always the best great food, staff and price for everything. I went in stood at the counter waited everyone was working, I was in no rush, another man walks up to the counter a lady comes around looks at me and helps him. I stay there don't say anything no big deal just think she saw him first so I stay patiently waiting at the register looking at the menu. The guy leaves I'm ready to order she looks at me another guy comes up she helps him, in the middle of helping him she says oh sir did you need help I didn't see you. 😒. I just say no ma'am I haven't whatever you know get my food promptly after ordering take it out to where I'm going to eat each of the three tacos I ordered only had one side of the shell, not cracked or anything just gone like I understand if it was gone but the whole side of all three were missing. I guess it's just for nostalgia that I give the rating I did but service and quality isn't what...
Read moreAcross the span of 30+ years I've eaten at Taco Casa several times first as a child then as an adult.
When I was a kid on family vacations my parents used to order tacos and bean and cheese cups with chopped ham in them. I find that item a bit weird now as an adult, but remember eating it in the back of the car as a kid, usually in New Mexico.
As an adult I've visited the location in Kerville twice now as well as a few others and find the food decent, not fantastic, and the entire place much like Taco Bell.
I will say its a fast, cheap place to grab basic Mexican food. The crunchy tacos are good, the chilada which is an (enchilada) is ok, but Its one of those places that has a unique taste of its own. Prices are cheap, service is fast, food is decent.
Id put this place in the same category as Taco Bell, or McDonalds. While not the best Mexican food, or burger around, its cheap, tasty and would be missed by many if it...
Read moreDo you remember how places like Taco Bell used to be in the 70s and 80s before they ruined their food with chemicals & fillers to try to keep it cheap? Do you remember how GOOD it was? How courteous the employees were?
THIS PLACE HAS CAPTURED IT! We're talking time-machine epic! So forget the DeLorean and the Life-Preserver, and head over to Taco Casa!
This place had me fooled, not being a native. I went by many times, and I wasn't impressed by the decor outside, but I kept seeing "Taco Casa" cups and wrappers all over town. That much trash couldn't be constantly keeping the local street crews busy for no reason. So I followed the latest litter trail in to Taco Heaven... and to my surprise this stuff was not just THAT good, but it was real cheap.
The Hill Country's got a good thing going with this place - this needs to go National...
P.S. for Taco Casa: That 45 cent large Dr Pepper was a great idea. It got me...
